Am I mad or is this an insane price for this car?

https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1977-porsche-9...

It doesn't take a lot of looking through the ad and at the pictures to know this car has a fair few bodywork issues, and based on the description it's not a car i'd be hugely confident about the maintenance record of.

What is this price about? Just the current fashion for green over tan?

Advert highlights the car has has rust and still has rust.

This is the problem with aircooled cars. They're likely to be hiding rust which is expensive to get removed properly.

I did see it and wouldn't go anywhere near this at these prices.

"CONDITION
The seller notes that one of the front wings has been previously replaced due to rust.

Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.

Specific notes from the seller include: some touched-up stone chips, wear on the driver’s seat bolster piping, and a small area of surface rust on the driver’s door. "

It's almost like an attempt at a magician like misdirection. Look at the rust on the door and hopefully you won't see any of the other bits

It's fashion darling, helped along by those cool Scandinavians.

Courtesy of Car magazine....

An olive green slice of Scandi-noir TV history sold for £125,000 at auction: the achingly cool 1977 Porsche 911 S from hit series The Bridge was auctioned off at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed Bonhams auction.

The retro-coloured coupe is driven in the television show by oddball detective Saga Norén, played by Sofia Helin, and has arguably become one of the best-known cars on the small screen. But now that the series is coming to an end, the famous 911 was auctioned off for charity.

What do we know about the Porsche 911 from The Bridge?
Chassis number 9117201496 is a stock 911 S painted in a distinctive Jager Grun olive green – a very fitting, retro 1970s hue.

This left-hand drive, manual model was originally sold in the US market, but was imported to Sweden in 2009. In 2012 the production company behind The Bridge, Filmlance International, bought it in preparation for filming.

The car has played a central part in the show ever since the first series. It adds to the gritty, enigmatic character of Norén, who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome but has an excellent taste in cars.

The Swedish-registered 911 S Coupe was sold at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed sale by Bonhams and all proceeds raised went to WaterAid, the charity that works with organisations around the world to provide clean water and sanitation.

It’s made a decent profit; producers bought the run-down 911 off a passer-by for just £7000. If only old Porsches could still be bought for buttons…

I bet the seller cannot believe his luck, I pegged this car at high 30s ... potentially low 40s... this price (+ the 6% buyers premium of course) just seems nuts to me ... it'll cost a heck of a lot to sort all that 'surface rust'.

I've said it many time CC is the Emperor's New Clothes car auction platform. For some reason buyers lose all sense of reality, or they're sniffing something very strong. From a business perspective CC have nailed it with an introductory service that is risk free.

Replacement wings is better than patched up wings given they bolt off/on but the rest of any restoraton is unclear. However I note it has had a full 'Stage 2' polish (presumably over the touch up paint on the arches) so that'll sort it rolleyes

Equally I'm not sure noting that the 'steering wheel' reputed to have been used in another car in the East Africa rally has any relevance? WTF writes this? More importantly who swallows this guff?

Pretty little thing, but with the signs of corrosion at the bottom of the drivers door slam panel suggests kidney bowls will need attention. I'd have pitched it high 30s possible just breaking 40k. Well done to the seller.

Why the decals on the front wings? I’m pretty sure early SCs didn’t have turn indicators on the wings.
So are the decals to cover the fact that it’s a later wing fitted to cover the hole for the indicator idea

Quite possibly... just can't believe that price for what is effectively a very high mileage and rather ropy SC ... It's the whole #makegreengreatagain thing gone completely mad, you could have got a nicer car and had it painted beautifully in any shade of green you like for that money. People are idiots!
