Total 911magazine forum review

Anybody read it?Are we all really titering forty-somethings?The mags writer on this article believes that we should all be down the pub instead????There is lots more sh.t in there but i dont think i should spoil your read.The reason this article was printed in the first place has more to do with a thread on this forum about loaning our cars to magazines,after all the waffle in this piece he gets it off his chest and refers to this,he seems clearly angered by the views held by some patrons of this forum.It seems to me that its more dangerous to join up here than play the ouja board!I really think he has missed the point of this forum and why i use it anyway,maybe other members have their own reasons.Each month your editor asks for feed back good and bad and we give it ,if you dont like some of the opinions that this electronic sewing circle gives then dont ask, or dont read, its that simple.PS THE FORTY SOMETHING LABEL you give fits your photo very well.Make up your own minds on this article for me Nik seems worried about the amount of power we comand here, i think he's worrying for nothing,i will still buy the mag because i like it,and even though the guy speaks tripe,he is entitled to his opinion just base it on experience not bolloc.s

Wasn't this the article that also commented adversely on the quality of the grammar/spelling to be found on Internet forums like these? Which I thought was a bit rich coming from Total 911 given the quality of their proof reading.

rob05..............Glad someone else expressed this view Rob ,cud nt agrre more , i refrained in case i was deemed prejudiced after the last time i spoke up ............surely as u ve said, u cant ask for ideas all the time and then decry the Forums that put them up ??
Or maybe theres no such thing as bad publicity .......

I remember moderating a thread which had turned into speculation of "who said what?" between someone at the magazine and one of their contractors.

Vic, feel free to comment away. The thread concerned was certainly not moderated due to anything you said on it.

So let's get this right. Someone in Total 911 is slagging off forums. So how come the publisher of said magazine, johnfm, comes on here to ask us all what he thinks of his mag? He must think this place is reasonable, surely?

So where is this article? I have all the mags at home.

I just think he should just give a more balanced view of the forums,and in his article he does'nt.Where are the good things?Like people meeting other people,be it at a track day or a blast to europe,or the car shows,or the technical information a person can use?Why does it just focus on the negative and just brush on the positive?I look forward to an answer.

But this is the very beauty of a forum... there are no editors. Yes, myself and Daz may step in if there is some naming and shaming or name-calling, but basically it is the people's forum, for the people. You can write what you want (within reason), unlike journalists who are there to sell magazines, meet a political agenda or appease advertisers.

Of course, a lack of regulation means that some people spout b****cks (I may have been guilty myself! ). Some people may have an extreme opinion. And some may simply be egotistical loudmouths who like seeing themselves on the web.

But a larger proportion of people have interesting stories and experiences to share, and it can be fun and informative reading their posts and chatting to them.

As long as you take what's written as recommendation or suggestion only, then forums will only do good.

If you take them as gospel then you will be in trouble. In fact, send me your email address and I will put you in touch with my nephew, Jimmy Nduko III, the deposed King of Nigeria, who has a very exciting scheme involving missing bullion that you may be interested in.

I could'nt agree more and if that guy who wrote the article is keeping his finger on the pulse,then read domster's 10 pence worth because thats what should have been included in your article.Maybe you should spend more time in here and domster can write for the mag,at least we would have someone who knew what he was talking about.

I think that before our journalist friend slates forums, he would do well to remember that on this forum, most people own the Porsches that we discuss. These aren't 13 year olds pretending they have GT2s. No. We have owners here of the very finest Porsches in the land (that is no exageration at all, see www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=204887&f=48&h=0 for the proof).

The people here own Porsches, they speak from experience. I would rather listen to a fellow PHer's views on his GT3/GT2 or whatever than some journalist.

Although I still buy far too many car mags!

Thats a good point. Few magazines seem to run columns written by journos with modern or high value cars. Chris Harris being the notable exception amongst the columnists.

Ah I see!!! Journo's like to think they know it all and we think we'd like to know it all...

I think I'll stick to the forum for banter, p$ss taking, valued opinions, hands on experience and all the news. As as I do most of my reading in worktime it doesn't even cost me the price of a mag. Result!

Adam its only one guys opinion, i dont think he speaks for the whole magazine,i do think the editor has some thinking to do though. Any respected publication does'nt stereotype people just because they are different, but deals in fact and it would be interesting to hear what he has to say.Who for example are these groups of bearded weirdies who feel continually compelled to put pen to paper and send their self-righteous diatribes to various specialist magazines??maybe these weirdies are the same people that write into your mag mate and keep you in a job,have a think!
