Due to a server falling over in a back way a few days ago, I'm faced with installed Exchange again. Problem is half the things I've got to set have fallen out of my head.

Here's the issue. I can send mail but if someone tries to send a mail to the server (SMTP) it rejects it. I believe this is because of the following.

The server is for example server.blah (where blah is the domain name). But my mail is someone@somewhere.com. The mails get bounced as it doesn't seem to know about somewhere.com.

My users have user@somewhere.com as a valid email address for them.

I seem to remember I have to tell exchange that it can handle somewhere.com mails, but I can't for the life of me remember how.

Help!

Which version of Exchange? It's set in different places.

On 2K3 you need to set your recipient policy and your SMTP connector to the correct domain name.

Does the server have the same IP Address? It is possible that you have used a different address and the mail is being sent to the old address.

You may need to check the DNS MX records for that domain are correct.

Sorry, should have stated that. Yes it's 2K3.

As an aside I've also found out what happens if a raid array rebuilds and changes the disk ID for you. AD gets very unhappy. Computers eh?

DNS seems fine (I believe the mails get to port 25 on the server). The IP is dynamic but handled via no-ip. Good point but I don't think the issues there.

Thanks anway.

First thing, have you set your recipient policy in Exchange manager to the correct domain?

That's the puppy! Mr BliarOut sir you are a star. Funny thing is all the painful setup I had to go through to get mail out via my ISP I remembered.

Thanks again all.

Pointless. I'd only forget where I wrote it down

Alternately buy Workgroupmail it seems to be a hell of a lot easier to use than exchange and cost a looooot less.
