If you're on a 60mph/NSL speed limit dual carriageway and decide to reduce your speed to <30mph, you're being more dangerous to the traffic around you than the tailgater.

Reduce your speed (but not too much), carefully anticipate the road ahead and avoid sharp changes in speed or direction.

It's possible the tailgater didn't want to overtake you because they knew they were leaving to the nearside soon.

What an odd way to drive.
1) it’s the ‘driving lane’, not the ‘slow lane’, the other lanes are for overtaking.
2) ignore any flashing, just carry, and certainly don’t slow to 30, that is just stupid.

I've had something similar happen albeit rarely. I just assume the person is almost out of fuel and trying to slipstream a few hundred meters more. Slowing down then booting it away usually works to wake them up.

How can reducing your speed in the circumstances described be anything other than bizarre. Dangerous, might be another word to use.
