I'm trying to get my IPS tags released from a certain internet host company. No names, but let's just say their name makes a sum of two. The amount of hoops they are getting me to jump through is ridiculous, coupled with telephone support that is worse than useless.
Jamie, if you're reading this, I've raised a support ticket with you to try and light a fire underneath them.
I've had better service from you in just one week, than all my time with them :furious:

;( Alas this is typical of some of the chaps in the same business.

Its done to grind you down, in the hope that you simply wont want to leave them / it gets too late and you NEED to renew.

Some places simply charge silly fees (£30-£50) to 'allow' you to transfer away, some just ignore all requests.

Rest assured, once you're over, there is non of that silly businesses.. You get the ability to actually MAKE the transfer in your own CP (should you ever wish to!)

Looks like the support chaps are dealing.

Just sat on the phone waiting for some muppet with an American accent to make some sort of sense......guess what? I've got to send another fax!!!!

I tried to register some more domains with you as well, but have to wait until my account with you is confirmed by the IPS tags.

As thats the only domain in your account, and as its not active yet, your Registry profile hasnt been activated.

2 options

a) Order under a different user account and then raise a support ticket asking for the 2 accounts to be merged.

b) Order once the Domain is finally live.

Lemme know if you need any info.

Once the transfer completes, just raise a support ticket and ask for one of the accounts to be merged into the other (your choice which!)

Enjoy

back to topic:
Here's the email I just sent

I have been trying to change my host for just one of my domains I have with you. I initiated the cancellation process, and stupidly clicked the curiously worded link the following day to see how it was proceeding. Imagine my surprise when it voided my request? I have since initiated the cancellation again, with all the corresponding new faxes etc etc. I have phoned you several times to find out how the process is proceding. Each time I have phoned, I have been eventually connected to some distant call center, who quite frankly are useless. several pointless waits/conversations later, and after having been told that I should use the FAQ, or go to contracts.xxxxx.co.uk etc etc, and send a fax !
How hard is it to release an IPS tag? does it get much harder? Are there any more hoops I've got to jump through? If you send me some dice, should I try and throw a double six for you?

Perhaps more to the point, should I leave the domains I still have with you, under your control? or take them elsewhere?

hehehe

you missed out consult the VooDoo Witch Doctor on the likelyhood of the transfer being granted

As an interim measure, if you have the ability.

change your listed nameservers to

ns0.Register1.net
ns1.Register1.net
ns4.Register1.net

should at least get the site up and running until they do release the IPS tag.

Oooo are we talking 1&1 here as I was going to transfer some domains I have with them over to another provider (possibly register1). I thought it would be a simple process of just requesting the transfer via the new provider. Am I going to be in for some grief.

.com .net .org, the Admin contact gets an email asking them to approve the transfer.

.uk domains the current owner has to get the current Registrant to 'just' change the IPS tag to ours.

Jobs a goodun.

Feel free to mail me via profile if you need more info.

Imagine knocking a six inch nail into masonry, with your forehead, with a heavy hangover !

Does that give you some idea?

Phil

Edit to add:
Make the change to register1. It will probably turn out to be a complete pain in the arse getting them shifted, but I can assure you from my very short time with Jamie you won't regret it.

Here's todays email:

Well here we are another day older, and still not had my IPS tags released. Other hosts I've used have all had the option to release my IPS tags from some sort of control panel, not so with your good selves. I sent the cancellation fax for the third time again yesterday, to no avail. I won't bother phoning the helpline, my doctor has advised me to keep my stress levels at a minimum. I now find myself in some sort of cyber limbo, perhaps just saying "what the hell, never mind the expense I'll just use nominet to get my tags changed", it' has got to be easier than using your system. Now I think of it, they do a discount package so I could move all my domains away from you in one fell swoop, must surely be worth considering?

Should I send the cancellation fax again, on the offchance that your machine is out of toner? I'd be happy to replace it for you if it meant things would progress. If not should I just drive the 150 or so miles from south Devon to your offices in Slough and deliver the cancellation by hand? I presume (silly me) that you would have some form of letterbox for me to deliver the letter through, or should I bring some form of power tool to make one?
