Anybody know of a C++ compiler that can create 64 bit programs?

Our developer says he doesn't know of one. I dont know of one either (But then i'm not a programmer, just the monkey that uses/supports the stuff).

Cheers!

I seem to recall there is a 64-bit C++ compiler shipped in the 64-bit Platform SDK although I haven't used it.

Sack the developer for being demonstratably ignorant, unable to use Google and quite possibly lazy!

www.devx.com/amd/Article/27474

(the first Google result for GCC C++ 64 bit)

I'd love too but onfortunately he owns the rights to the software and 1/3 of the company.... If I told you he was American would you be surprised?

I suspect he is just frightened of (perceived) change. Or perhaps is not really all that good and knows his code is not 64 bit clean and does not fancy fixing it!

There is a third option: he knows you are not a developer and knows the software in question will not benifit from being 64 bit (lots of software is in this catagory, quite a lot is actually slower when compiled for 64 bit mode) and can't be bothered explaining it all to you!

We're building 64 bit versions of software so they are out there That's both on PCs and on Suns.

Nah it has to run on 64bit as it's a performance stats data collector. And the 32bit version is failing when run on 64bit.

Frightened of change makes sence.....as he's using borland of some description, which they are saying they will not be making a 64bit version of....possibly. Ho hum.

Thanks for the help guys. Gave me some stuff to wave under my bosses nose.

If he has been using Borland C++ Builder (or whatever it's called these days) and they are not going to make a 64 bit version (seems surprising, but I suppose it's possible) then you could be in a bit of trouble as it could be quite some effort to port to an alternative.
