Hi! I have a Tag Carrera mechanical I've had for around 8 years. it's recently stopped working which I'm pretty gutted about and hoping a service would get it working again.

Is it absolutely essential to take it to a Tag dealer to be sent back to Tag (enquired a while ago and told me they had a long turnaround), or would a local Tag dealer be trusted to do it?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, get it serviced but you'll need deep pockets. I just had a quote for a Breitling full service at £760! Ouch. I don't believe that the TAG will be much cheaper.

Find an independent watchmaker. Basic mechanical Tags will have ETA movements that any competent watchmaker can work on.

Thanks. Didn’t know if they had special parts etc if they needed replacements so that’s good to know.

Might just need a battery replacement, recently had 13yr old Tag F1 battery replacement, re-seal, polish, re-enamel done with Tag £90, completed within 4 weeks of dropping in to the shop.

I had a quote of (I think) £560 for my Carerra - that was through a Tag boutique. An independent should be around half that, depending on what needs doing.
