Just noticed last couple of mornings that on start-up I hear a kind of groaning from the engine bay of the car. Lasts about 10 secs then never heard again.

I appreciate that "groan" sounds a little vague but its the only work I can use to describe it !

Its an 02 996TT with 23k miles on it.

Any ideas?

Some pump building up pressure on start up maybe?

Possibly, but its only started doing it last week.
Guess I will have to leave it with a specialist or OPC overnight as it only does it from cold in the morning or when the car has been left several hours.

Have you checked all the fluid levels?

Probably the alternator trying to keep a charge on a flattish battery just after starting.

Brand new battery a few months ago.
All fluid levels fine.

Car was serviced last month (big 48k service)

Could it be the polyrib belt needing tightening, or any other belt?

mine has done it since I have had it, it only does it in the morning. I noticed my clutch is tight until the noise stops then it drives fine. It only lasts a couple of seconds and then goes away. I just put it down to system start up and 5 secs for everything to come online.
