Stupid-ish question and I can't believe I didn't plan earlier....
I go on a spontaneous (booked last week) weekend trip to Paris by car. I will be driving from Switzerland to Paris on Friday, back on Sunday.

My Volvo V90 T8 currently is on its winter wheels/tyres and the summer wheels are awaiting two new tyres. These will not come before next week.
So I have as an option, to either drive with winter tyres or to fit the summer ones, with two of them being very-ish close to the legal limit.

Weather should be good with temperatures up to 25°C. Route would be 450 miles each way french autoroute.

What would you do?

Winter tyres, no question. A bit of motorway isn't going to wear the winters much.

It would be a different story if you were going in the 911. Is that Plan C? hehe

Winters. I generally run winters year-round on the family hack including trips down to the far south of France in summer, so journeys of circa 1,000 miles (each way), and temperatures quite a bit higher than 25 celcius. Despite what some will tell you winters will not disintegrate the second it gets over 7 degrees and you will still be able to go round corners and use your brakes.

go on then, i'll go the other way... fit the summers. if the roads are warm and dry, the ride on summers will be quieter and probably more economical. motorway miles aren't going to wear a cars tyres much at all, so wouldn't worry me if two of them are close to the limit.

if there is any likelihood of rain though i would stick with the winters.

Winter tyres every time.

I've done Basel to Genoa for a week in May before with my winter tyres on- (because I just hadn't gotten round to swapping them over) absolutely no problem

Stay on the winters, by the time you've completed the trip all residue of winter salting should have washed away.

Fit the summers when convenient and whilst the wheels are off is as good as time as any to service and lube the brakes and give the arches and undersides a good hose down to get the salt/mud out of the nooks and crannies.
