I got lung damage from Covid.
I've always been fit. Played rugby for 43 years, run half marathons and Triathlons etc.
I broke my knee badly in 2019 which put a stop to running more than 3 miles but not the swimming and cycling.
Then I got covid and blood clots in lungs. I can still cycle 20 miles and swim 1200m - its just takes me 10-15% longer smile
Running is more difficult because of the knee but I can still run 1500 in 9 minutes.
However, the Docs have decided to put me on blood thinners (initially Riveroxyban now Warfarin) as a precaution.
Question. Will this affect my Race License for UK circuit racing? I used to race FF and thinking of doing so again.
Will it be a flat "NO!"
I've asked Docs if I can come off blood thinners 2 days before a race and then start again after but they don't want me to do this.
Many thanks in advance for advice......

You'll need to ask MSUK unfortunately.

You may be able to see which meds require a doctor's letter by downloading a licence application form, but ultimately it will be down to MUK.

Blood thinners is one of the questions on the form. You then have to fill in the extra info bit. Then it’ll be up to MSUK. Always strikes me that the two nos for getting a licence are passing out or mobility issues but that’s just a guess

Am assuming you may be of the right vintage where you need a medical assessment as part of your application anyway.

In my limited experience, MSUK generally seem keen to get more people competing. Knowing a little about the effects of Warfarin, I’d be surprised if it ruled you out.

As said, MSUK will be the final arbiter but maybe worth paying for a medical with http://www.motorracingmedics.co.uk/Motor_Racing_Me... as they will be used to these sorts of issues. If you are not near their location they usually attend the Autosport and Race Retro shows (and possibly others) each year to do race licence medicals.

The MSUK licence department are usually very helpful and give a quick response on medical matters. I raised similar questions a few years ago and got a reassuring response almost immediately.

Bublik,
I'm on anticoagulant, not Warfarin. When I wanted to renew my race licence, I was referred to the Medical Committee of MotorsportUK, which wanted a letter from my cardiologist, presumably to shift the responsibility. He was glad to oblige, but the whole business took so long I missed the first three meetings of the year. Apply early!
