Getting nicked for no MOT?

What's the probability?

Clowns at Autoglass let me down on two booked appointments, now it'll fail the MOT and i cant get a window fitted for a few days, which puts the van off the road/can't work.

With all the numberplate cameras everywhere in the smoke I guess it's not worth chancing it, will I get 500 PCNs in the post?

Hard to give a definitive answer but I ran a motorcycle for months a couple of years ago when I got my dates muddled (cos of the covid MOT extension thing) and never had an issue. Not sure ANPR cameras link to the MOT database, I suspect they flag up ‘vehicles of interest’ more than anything. There are HUGE numbers of vehicles running about with no insurance which never seem to get picked up. I suspect the police would never get anything else done if they responded to every ping on ANPR of every infraction.

Once upon a time the £25 fine? No points n just a talking too by traffic cops made it a reasonable bet,now judging by the way posts on FB celebrate catching mot offenders, probably not I'm afraid

Yeah I've had it lapse in the past myself but what with all the superspy ukez cameras here i wondered if it's an opportunity they can't help but go for. It's only logging + database matching + letter = pRoFiT after all...

I was pulled over and fined last year when I messed up and was a week overdue.

I was stopped specifically for no MOT, not for any other offence (I was driving normally in slow traffic when a police car joined behind me.)

Depending on the damage to the screen you could be looking at getting an FPN (3 points and a fine) as well.

I didn’t realise my first car had no MOT for over 6 months when I first started driving, never got pulled.

If it isn't through insurance, can you not find another screen fitter?

book an mot nearby , you can legally drive to a pre booked mot

if you get a letter through , you have proof you book a mot

Known a few not car people drive round for months in London with expired MOT's and never get pulled or anything through the door. The ones that have been pulled are always let go first time.

So if they do pull you, plead ignorance, say you hadn't realized, you thought it was the 21st April not the 12th, etc. and you'll go home and get it booked in.

No MOT does not invalidate you insurance. It might invalidate you ability to claim for your loss, but it doe not invalidate the third party cover.

Otherwise everybody done for no MOT, would also be done for no insurance.

My mum once drove around for months sans MOT. OTOH I got stopped by trafpol for an MOT being a week out of date. They came after me w blues and twos and pulled me over as their anpr had spotted my reg. £85 fine, nil point.
