Anyone giving up EV?

Wondering if anyone here has gone back to ICE? I'm pretty sure this time next year (when PCP is up) I will be.

I'm not Anti-EV at all, but the finances don't work out for me any more. Plus I have the attention span of a whippet.
Compared to my usual shed + petrol, paying deposit + £205 pm, plus let's say £25 on the 'leccy bill I was paying about £50 more to have a nice, fairly new EV (e-Golf) which I think was fair.

Now my commute's gone down a lot to 90 miles PW from 250 miles PW the difference is more stark and I
a) don't need to make as much saving on fuel to justify it
b) really love bangernomics! Plus, with a shorter commute and hopefully a new motorbike I can be a bit less sensible rusty MX5 for the summer, Proton Jumbuck for the winter, Thirsty V8 for the summer after...

If I was buying a New/Sub 5YO car I'd go EV every time (but not the Golf because of it's stty range), but I think before it gets banned I'm going to burn some dinosaurs

We're going back to Hybrid from an I-pace.

Daily stuff it's hoped that the Hybrid will run in electric mode for the cross city commute and general family duties. It will be charged daily or every other day to cope with this at work.

then for longer trips either business or not - will be much easier without the hassle of looking and waiting for an appropriate charger.

An Ipace will be replaced with a Volvo XC90 t8. Cost to us will be higher with increased BiK and fuel, but to be honest worth it to get rid of the slow expensive and unreliable charging we've experienced when away from home with the jaaaaaag.

A bloke in my mates work is going from an M3P to a Defender P400e

He says sums don’t really work for him now now and a hybrid suits better, plus a Defender is more his kind of thing and more space, a model Y didn’t cut it.

I'm only a few months in, but I can't imagine not having an EV as a daily in future. They're just such a nice way of travelling, and while not as cheap as a banger they're cheaper to run than anything 'nice', and nicer than anything 'cheap'.

They don't to be fair have a charger at their homes. One poor lady I know ends up spending way too much time in the garden centre for the charger

probably costs her more in coffee and plants than getting a charger at the house

I am getting my first EV in a few months. Looking forward to it. I think there is scope for having both. ICE good for some uses. For me the EV is just a more relaxing/comfortable drive.

Next I don’t know, we will see.

I already got rid of my model S, and now use a Range Rover for the long trips.

We’ve an electric Smart for round town which we love and aren’t planning on changing.

I fit into the Older category and for whatever reason do not suffer range anxiety but I've not had a problem charging remotely either albeit it is infrequent.

It is really cheap motoring and so much more pleasant than the Mercedes ICE i sold. I do not know any of my EV owning friends changing back to ICE. They are mostly A types some working some retired if that has any bearing.

I'll never go back to ICE. It's last century's tech: noisy, dirty, wasteful, unsustainable, antisocial, stupidly inefficient and - for me - way too expensive to run. My wife just bought her own EV and she's never going back to ICE either. I have one ICE car left (a classic that I've owned for almost 30 years) which will be sold this year.

So this is more of a banger vs new car decision rather than ICE vs EV.
EV prices have come down a lot, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you can get second hand nowadays.

Absolutely. And I 100% agree with the poster who said it's a nice relaxing way to travel. If I was buying a car at around 12k, which is sort of my £2k + 200pm budget area, ICE wouldn't get a look in, I'd be in an MG5/Niro/Kona. There's also the not being tied to a 2+ year agreement as I am a bit of a vehicular magpie. But appreciate that's very much a me-specific issue rather than any particular propulsion technology!
I'm sure I'll be back in EV again at some point.

I’d be very happy to swap my Range Rover for an electric one if it’s no heavier and still feels as eager as the 650bnp V8. A genuine 350 mile range is a must too.

I think that that’s not now very far off. I may swap my Emira for the new electric lotus SUV.

Pretty much lost interest in cars totally now, when the X finally dies, I'll probably get a Lexus RX. I've grown to like larger cars, the RX will be much more reliable and better bult than the X.

Why are you feeling depressed? Times change and we better change with them. Resisting (inevitable) change is futile and extremely tiring and dwelling on the past makes a chap bitter and apt to delusion.

As to ICE classics: I've had my share. The ones I've been privileged enough to be the custodian of were fun. But after many years, the challenge - and therefore the adventure of it - has gone. I've driven them everywhere, I know how they drive, I've taken them apart and put them back together again and now, whenever something needs maintenance or goes wrong, I know what to do because I've done it before. It gets to be a chore and that's no good.
