Skoda Fabia
Steering verges to left

I took it to a well known and respected local garage and he did laser alignment - he told me something was off and he attempted to fix it. I asked him what he was doing just out of interest and he said something about adjusting the steering rod.

I took the car out yesterday on the motorway and it still veers -and if anything is doing it in a more direct way.

So it could be the alignment with the wheels (i.e. first job not done properly) - or what else could it be? Maybe the wheel alignment is just exacerbating another problem.

Wheel alignment, what your mechanic was doing, or meant to have been doing.
Worn suspension bushes.
Sticking brake caliper.
Physically damaged wheel, tyre or suspension. Have you hit a pot hole particularly hard recently?

I did kerb it the other day!

I did also notice one type needs pumping up but would have thought he would have done it if it was major. I forgot to ask.

I'll take it to another garage

Do you have the before and after alignment printout?

Start with that. Most production cars don’t have much, if any, adjustability for things other than toe. If there is something that couldn’t be brought into spec then there could be bent components. I’d expect a competent alignment shop to be able to tell me this.

An under inflated tyre certainly won't help.

An under-inflated tyre will cause exactly the symptoms the OP has.

I didn't get a print out. I did observe him doing the adjustments as he did it all whilst I waited.

I'll give the tyres a pump up this week and see what happens

It was quite handy to see the car on a lift as I can see my exhaust is a bit rusty as well!

Missed that info. The guy doing the alignment doesn’t sound very good if he did as well.
