From M3 to Monaro VXR
Discussion
Difficult decision to make, but am sick to death of having owned a new M3 cab for 10 months and losing 15K on it in less than a year. Thats right, they're worthless once they are off the forecourt, but bought back somehow they seem to raise over £40k again. Robbing bastards.
Anyways, have looked at all sorts of cars to trade the M3 against, ranging from Porsche, Noble, TVR, Mustang, Masers etc, but the only dealer who showed any interest and offered a very interesting and competitive trade was Vauxhall, against a new Monaro VXR in black.
So, just waiting for some paperwork to materialise and will be picking it up soon I hopes!!
First thing to go will be the zuast, am thinking along the lines of a full Milltek system or equivalent. Although, I havent seen to many "equivalents". I need some educating here guys!!
Anyways, good to be amongst you all and will give you an update on when the car arrives. Cant wait to see the arse end of the M3 for good!

Just buying a std one myself from Greens at Rainham.
Talk to Brian there (caspy here) - they advertise hereabouts
He's offered me Wortec stainless catback exhaust, MAF, CAI, re-map & short shifter all to give about another 50bhp for £1995 all in.
I drove their demo one with a Wortec on at the weekend and it dun't arf sound nice.

Hi - Welcome to the forum.
I've had the Wortec exhaust, MAF, CAI, short shifter and remap.
Here's a sound clip of the exhaust.

MAF - governs airflow into the engine and works with PCM to affect fuel air mixture - I think. Better airflow and air fuel mixture better combustion - more power!
CAI - Affects cooling of air into the engine and ambient air in the engine bay. Better air cooling more power! Standard CAI not very good from an engine thay generates a lot of heat!
That is my knowledge! The usual technical crew on here wil probably add better responses.

There are 2 components to the MAF reference.
1. MAF Pipe
The MAF Pipe replacement alone is a good mod and there are links about that - maybe ask uk hsv?
Essentially rubbish unclean airflow through standard item, nice clean airflow through replacement - bit like an athlete running with bronchitis and then getting rid of it - same affect on the car.
2. MAF Meter
The MAF meter is the bit that governs airflow as I underswatdn it. I have had both done and to get the real benefit you must have a remap to optimise the changes in airflow characteristics that will bring aboput performance gains..and they do!

What are the benefits of SD versus MAF? As far as I can tell, high-horsepower engines have traditionally ditched the MAF because sufficiently high-capacity MAF meters used to be unavailable or prohibitively expensive.

The current exhaust that we offer sounds like no other car, provides a power uplift of 25bhp+, stainless steel, mandrell bent and is only £995.00
We can also remap the PCM to maximise the upgraded exhaust and provide a significant additional power and torque increase. Has to be driven to fully appreciate.
If you wanted to test drive a car with exhaust and remap, drop me an email.

Thanx for the welcome guys.
I've posted elsewhere on Pistonheads when I was looking at the Noble and Segaris, so have been flitting in and out of different forums for last two months or so.
Had call from dealer today and all seems good, just wating or their final offer, am buying two cars, so am hoping they will give us a fair deal.
Monaro VXR (woops typing in the dark) to replace my 9 month old Carbon Black M3 and a Vectra to replace the wife's 9 month old 316tiES. they will even take in my old 2000 V6 Omega and aged Granada Scorpio as part of the deal. Can't say fairer than that.
Am serious about chaning the VXR zaust, I like a V8 to have some balls so if thanx for the current emails and sound clips. Would be grateful for anymore if ppl have them.

Have MAF dyno sheets showing power of MAF cars, and that of SD.
The fact that people using the bigger MAF have not seen the need to go to SD, with the current engine/MAF can you prove otherwise (just to be contrary.
I would add that if bolting a blower on, it may be diff story. But feel that in the less extreme tunes, the MAF aids smoothness and drivibility without compromising power.
Out of curioisty is this system available with the 100 or 200 cell cats (not sure what the difference is), but from listening to cars with modded systems, the cats make a hell of a difference if they are included in the system!
The system is currently CAT back. The gains (and noise) that have been made with just a cat back system are such that we have yet to look at the benefits, if any, of reducing the cat cell numbers. This has a cost saving to the end user, if you want to max your money then a Wortec cat back and remap for 6.0VXR will give you all the fun you will need, plenty of extra horses and lb's and all for less than a sport cell cat system. Worth a thought.
Taking them out will make a very deep and sonorous system even louder, may be worth trying the std cat back first(425bhp+) and then upgrade if you feel it is too tame.

The new operating system on the LS2 engine now has multiple look-up tables for the MAF to allow for all states of flow.
Also the VE table has been reduced in size so the accuracy of a SD tune will be reduced.
IMO the new MAF is the best option, allied to the fact that the UK has no one producing good SD tunes commercially.
AS for "cats" go cat back with a re map and you will be happy..............(but make sure you listen to the options from
all suppliers if you want a real V8 sound.)
