Discussion
Following the libertarian etc thread, I just come back from the pub. A friend there has recently (although he is in his 40s) just gained a PhD for his analysis of the "Green Left" (not very "pro"
).
He made some interesting points. The greens are anti-science (unless it supports them) - eg opposing fusion research (which could result in almost free energy), and especially anti-experimentation. The traditional "hard left" has always been pro-science and experimentation.
He agreed with the points several people made about the Greens being "authoritarian" (eg their irrational hatred of cars) depspite being "left" in their economic policies.
He characterised Greens as essentially "reactionary" in the strict political meaning of the word...
So they are reactionary, neo-fascist lentilists who would lead us back to the dark ages!

I won't pretend to know what all those big words mean. The only big word I know is 'marmalade'. Anyway...enviromentals are a funny breed. For years they have been rabbiting on about all these renewable sources we should be tapping into. As soon as the government do something like wind farms, tidal generators, etc, they whinge about them. Dug too deep, effecting birds, effecting fish population, and migration. Its pathetic. If you follow the enviromentals viewpoint, the best form of energy production is a nuclear plant, (which i am all for), but nooo... that involves radiation, and Chernobyl, and fish with 3 eyes. I think they would be happier scrabbling round in the earth for grubs, and clubbing lettuces to death as we couldn't possibly effect rabbit populations, etc.. erm.. hmm bit of a rant.. anyway.. how exactly do these 'extremists' get to and from protests? I will guarantee the million of so that turn up for these marches on may day do not walk. They couldn't use bikes, as that expends too much valuable resources in manufacture, can't use a car, or train. Bloody hypocrits... erm... Tangent alert.. ok..I;ll shut up...
The thing that seems to be common to most authoritarian groups is fear, and more often than not irrational fear. There is always something to be afraid of, or a 'big evil' that must be campaigned against.
It think that those attracted to such groups (be they political or religious) are often unable or unwilling to form their own opinions. They blindly accept what they are told, and cannot be convinced otherwise, despite what evidence may be presented to them.

Noooooo don't confuse lentilists with genuine environmentalists Genuine environmentalists are against windmills and other crap cos its bad for the environment as a whole. Lentilist scum are in favour of everything that is wrong and bad for the environment in real terms provided its anti technology. So they love windmills and tidal energy crap and they hate nuclear power
This is the real trouble with leadership that has no significant scientific background.
Tony Blair is a lawyer. That's what he knows about. The result, is vast tracts of new legislation. It doesn't matter if the legislation works or not, that's the only way he knows to solve a problem.
He's probably a good layer for all I know. The trouble is that the country has real problems. It needs real solutions, and those don't come from lawyers.
Real, meaningful, tangible solutions come from engineers and scientists, mathematicians, physicists and chemists and biologists.
All the time we have a lawyer in charge, all we'll see is more law that prevents people from doing the things, that are problematic but have solutions. They can't be fixed, cos the man in charge doesn't know what to ask for. All he can do is "prevent bad things happening", next time they occur.

The most pointless phrase trotted out whenever something not nice happens is "we must make sure this never happens again". Not on your nelly, nelly.
There always has been a certain group of people who partly listen to a point of view but don't really understand it and never have had the gumption or initiative to question it in any way. These became members of the NSDAP, communist party, trozkyists, tradeunionists, or LSE political cells and now they have become lentilists.....
They can't and won't listen as the two words which they did understand from their Führer (or book, TV programme, broadsheet) are still confusing the one lonely brain cell they've got.
Just pity them and buy them another cress and watermelon sandwich! and don't stand on their Birkenstocks!
crrekted fro dyslexic fnigers!

Well said NoneGreen

Lentilists are an interesting group of people (who should be caged and studied imo
). The group is populated in the main by disaffected middle class oiks with enough education to know that they should have opinions but without the intelligence to form those opinions. They therefore they devide the world into good and bad. However this classification process isn't undertaken using rational reasoned argument, instead they use simple gut reactions entirely dependent on word association. Nuclear power BAD. Fossil Fuels BAD. Fluffy bunnies GOOD. Wales BAD. Whales GOOD. Cars BAD, wind power (built out of metal) BAD. Organic veggi patch GOOD. Vegetable farm BAD. Speed bumps GOOD. Roads BAD: etc etc
Once these people have understood a spoon fed opinion they cherish it and remain utterly enthralled by it! cretins!

Lentilists are all hypocrites who all drive round in clapped out old cars that pollute the environment or who drive their Toyota Picnics sensibly in a stupid belief they are saving the world.
Given that cars pump out C02 and tress and plants thrive on the stuff, it's a green feeding frenzy whenever I go for a drive.

I am a fan of the 'ooh evil cars' brigade who drive their kids to school and drive their kids to 'clarinet' and drive their kids to 'swimming' and drive their kids to another kids party and drive their kids to.........
In a Scenic, from their 'eco house' made from cement the production of which pollutes more than pretty much anything alse.........
them and the ones who seem to think we'd be better off if it the UK were to turn into Cambodia

I would generally agree. In the US these anti-technolgy types are a small but significant movement, often referred to as Luddites.
The Unabomber who terrorised scientists and technologists for years was one of them.
Of course, most "lentilists" have perfectly good intentions, if often misguided and misinfomed. We should not ignore green issues simply because they are "green". Some of the environmentalists agenda is sound common sense - ie - recycling, minimising pollution, not tarmacing the entire South East etc.
The danger comes when the more extreme or ardent environmentalists use pseudo-science and innacurate or misleading information to "prove" their arguements. However, I for one am pleased that there are organisations who care about our environment and have succeeded in reducing pollution from industry and making cars cleaner and more efficient.
Don't forget that twenty years ago the Thames was a dead river, now it is full of fish. Twenty years ago we were pumping raw sewerage onto our beaches - now they are far cleaner and you can swim in the sea without the assurance of dysentry.
As always, it is the middle ground that is the sanctuary of the sensible.

Why do lentilists slouch when they talk?
