Boxster Bargains
Discussion
Looking through the Classifieds its quite remarkable how much car you can get for such little money.
A 2000 'X' Boxster S for 22K. Probably obtainable for 21. That's a 252bhp convertible sports car - with Porsche cachet for a bargain price. The one on PHs front page has done just 21K miles.
That's the way to buy sports cars. Pre-depreciated.
A friend just bought a LHD 2.5 for 11K with less than 40K miles on the clock.

The '98 cars seem to have stalled at the 10k pounds mark for now.....any lower and they would seem a good basis for a 996 engine conversion...for 15-20 grand you would have a very quick car.
Now that is a bloody good idea. 340bhp in a Boxster (a la RUF 3600S) would be a hoot.
Maybe that's how to improve my lap times, eh? No need for all that talent, knowledge and skill business just whack in a big engine.

Hmmmm.... Is this fairly straighforward to do - documented anywhere?
thanks,

Nope, I considered it for my old Boxster. It's a specialist job, but right now it makes real sense
If I didn't need the extra seats, the 996 budget would have gone on an engine conversion for the Boxster. Buy a highish mileage 'S' replace the engine, uprate the brakes and suspension and rebush everything and you would have a cracking car.

6 Speed box?
And you win todays star prize...... Well, actually there isn't one, but yup, that's why.
There's a few other technical reasons why you start with the 3.2, which I can't remember right now.
Better brakes?
You could even supercharge the 3.2 engine instead of replacing it

Hi Art, yeh years back I got the bits for the 1st UK one to be done (3.4), there was a 911 & pork world article on it- I'll drag it out for ya & get the issue number if ya want.
That car is still going ok- somat like 40k post comversion, was on a 2.5 & yes 3.2 would make a better base (brakes & box) 2.5 box & suspension with 3.4 power not really a great combination, brakes were fine for road IMHO tho.
Dont think its a particually economic way to increase the performance with a 3.4 if its already an S as not leaps forward in performance for the ££, if you are gunna do it IMHO = use 3.6 minimum & ideally use a GT3 lump that would make a proper car- (its been done before too)
