After watching Race Across the World last night, I hopped channels to BBC2 and watched the first part of three in a new comedy series called Mammoth. Wasn’t expecting much, but thought I’d give it a go. With elements of David Brent, overloaded with Dad’s jokes and a cast including Sian Gibson, I thought it had some great laugh out moments. The idea of a man stuck in the 70s, working as a PE teacher in 2024, with a non-PC outlook and behaviour might not be the basis for comedy gold but I thought it worked well and didn’t try too hard. If you missed it, catch it on iPlayer - you might just enjoy it!

I watched the first new episode too - brilliant!

Had been hoping more would be made after really enjoying the pilot episode way back in 2021 thumbup

Shame there's only three episodes though

Likewise I thought it may be trying too hard to make him look like an idiot but it doesn’t.

Watched the first and then decided to see the remainder on iplayer, silly but enjoyable - the Guardian review also basically said it was a load of dad jokes and I took that as a good sign!

Watched all 3 earlier. Comical, even more so as I’m from 1970 & Welsh.

Isn't that basically the premise of Saxondale?

I watched the first episode on iPlayer... and then I watched the second and third immediately afterwards.

It was very enjoyable, with some genuinely amusing moments. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm glad the writers didn't fall into the trap of making the lead character too ridiculous.

bit of a thread-resurrection here... just stumbled across E1 and found it surprisingly enjoyable (with some decent music)

The second series recently appeared on iPlayer. Like the first, it's only three episodes long.

Second season was fun. My Mrs says I’m too much like him which I’ll take as a compliment smile

For reference, she usually says I’m a schizophrenic mix of Homer J Simpson & Tony Soprano so I’m clearly softening as I get older.
