Hey they should cash in on this instead of doing the usual NIMBY moaning.
They should advertise their houses for sale on here!

ie Nice 4 bedroom villa, on-suite, ddle garage, excellent sound system, backyard consisting of 3-4 miles of tarmac, excellent views and nice loooonngg driveway, enthusiast neighbours. Suit PH. UKP100,000

I'd buy it, you know you would!!!!

Ahh Dunsfold, the place where I had my first proper drive....... As bizare as it is seems the was also a golf course on the airfield at that time........

I grew up in that area I can confirm that Dunsfold manufactured Hawks towards the end, and yes the aircraft were noisy. However, as the place has been "silent" for a little while any re-introduction of noise would be noticed by the locals.

I imagine that if the site is not used it will end up as a housing development.

Noisey cars until December, and maybe occasional track day thereafter.........or 'space' taken away and increased traffic to support more neighbours?

Know which I would prefer.

Easy for the Beeb, just try to limit the filming / hooning to when the majority of the do-gooders are at work (assuming they work).

I think you guys are misusing NIMBY. This concerns an activity that has benefit or that is necessary for society, something all people need/use but selfishly won't tolerate in their own neigbourhood.
Although many might not want to agree, filming TG is NOT something that benifits society as a whole ;-)

But apart from that, I you want to live quite and peacefull, don't go live next to an airfield, duh

I know that area well, as a couple of others here. They used to make the harriers there for f**ks sake, and the noise from vertical take off was HUGE!!! way more than a road car, even an F1 car would not be as loud.

I bet your bottom dollar that the residents didnt complain until someone actually watched the first episode when Jeremy said it was being filmed at Dunsfold, and told the rest of the village.

They then assumed there was noise and complained just in case..................numpties, the bl**dy lot of them.

Funnily enough, myself and a few others had been talking to Rutland about using it for track days and aparently there is planning to cover such events.

What the fcuk is wrong with these people... ?

You know, most of these complainants are probably not people who grew up in the area or have been there a long time... more like people who made a few quid in London and moved out for a bit of 'The Good Life'...

They're the same people who object to planning permission for new shops, extending the local pub or whatever.. the locals support these things because they know that the area needs the jobs and the revenue to survive, but the twats who've moved out from the city want all the quaintness retaining and don't care about the needs of poeple who rely on the locality for their income..

Tunnel vision selfish fcukers... I hope Clarkson sends stig round to put dog dirt through their letterboxes

Same thing happened to the airfield in Bentwaters. Great venue for trackdays, then the residents started to complain....

It used to be an airfield for gods sakes, how can road cars hacking round on a weekend make more noise!

Sounds like another bunch of numpties telling PHs what to do and where to go in their holier-than-thou style. I wonder what revenue the area had before the Clarkster moved in? hmm. None, I think. Maybe if they watched the show they might actually ENJOY the fact that this was going on, instead of staying in with the Daily Mail and Jeremy Paxman.

These plonkers are not satisfied with closing down general-aviation at these decades-old sites, they now want to stop anyone using them for any activity whatsoever. Why the hell don't they live somewhere else?!!

This is BRILLIANT!! HOW FUNNY! Let me explain....
Until 2 months ago, I (well my parents) lived next door to the woman (Helen Boisseau) that is quoted in the article! This also means that our land backed directly onto the airfield.
Better not say anything bad about her but it has been inactive for a year or so and before that they did used to fly harriers from there so how she can complain about the noise of a few supercars astounds me!
If only I had known that it was going to have Top Gear filming and be a potential track day venue, I would never have let them sell it. How gutting!

I moved to Newmarket around 4 years ago. Did I complain about all of the horses? Well, they distrub my driving and get in the way when I want to "make progress". Did I complain to get horse racing and walking to and from the gallops banned? No I damn well didnt as I knew very well that this was going to happen and therefore i had to live with it.

If I had moved next to an airfield / old railway / empty industrial estate then I would do so knowing that it is land and more than likely to be used for something (other than housing, which these whinging moaners would probably complain about anyway!). If its quiet for some time then great - but if you are a sucker and you live next to a deserted airfield - you cannot expect it to be quiet forever.....

Morons, why oh why is this planet (especially this country) infested with complete idiots....?? Why why why? I agree with Graham - lets buy a planet and all move there. There would be strict immigration and numpties, morons and idiots would be banned..... anyone else would be fine..

Cheers,

Paul
