What are the forum's views on the suitability of Pagid brake pads on an early DB9 please?

I'm not too bothered by brand as long as they work well, but would prefer to avoid 'Tesco Value' pads for obvious reasons... any other makes to consider?

Don't think they are E marked. So technically not for road use.

There must be dozens of us on here that have been using Porterfield for quite a few years without realising....and no doubt many other UK customers

Supplied and fitted by DAE, I wonder if they are aware of the E mark issue.

My local garage quoted me £546 for Pagids + fitting + new sensors, so £202 for Porterfields + fitting is appealing.

The warning light hasn't come on yet so do I need new sensors as well? The garage said the old ones can break when you try to swap them over...

I changed the pads myself and re-used the sensor wires. You just have to be careful getting them out. However they could break if they are stuck in and if you didn't have any to hand you would have to re-do the job again later, so I can understand the comment by the garage. Not worth the risk if paying someone else to do it, just pay for new wires as well.

I changed mine myself, used Brembo pads, P02 002, they are £93 on autodoc -

You will need to reuse the shims but that wasn't a problem, the wear sensors can be reused and do come out easily using a small flat blade screwdriver

Porterfield are good also.

The e and E marks are EU and UN things, they just mean they can be sold in the EU or they meet global standards for sale according to the UN

Thanks - I thought Brembo would be almost AM money but not so. Have passed both links on smile

Regrettably I don't have the knowledge or equipment to do the work myself.

Nothing is ever AML money unless they are AML via another outlet like Scuderia. And AML simply contract someone else and then re-box them. Just price an NGK spark plug at Halfords and AML and see the AML tax...

The whole brake pad world seems really murky to me, with a small number of companies owning multiple different brands. Some are in bed with each other but it can work in our advantage.

The OEM Aston Pad is supplied by Brembo but is actually made by Pagid. It's a Pagid RS4-2-2 pad. Pagid are owned by TMD Friction and so is Textar and Mintex. You can buy the OEM pad through Textar (Pagid Pad in a Textar box) avoiding the Aston Tax. Handbrake Pad was originally a brembo but replacement was a Textar.

Hella Pagid is some co ownership deal but similar situation they have a part no that will be the OEM Pad.

I bought the Textar, less than half the OEM price. About 250 quid for all 3 sets. You could probably find them cheaper but I had to get them delivered to NZ.

If I read that right, whether you buy a pad marked Aston Martin, Brembo or Textar they're are all Pagids... spin

They are defiantly not Pagids. I have no experience of the Porterfields, but they are recommended by many reliable folk in the AM community.

I was slightly put off that the street versions are described as slightly less of a capable pad than the OEM. A few time in my 8 years of ownership I have managed to cook the OEM brakes(softer pedal, reduced confidence) so I decided I wanted OEM+.

I did OEM pads with 2 piece Tarox discs. Took ages to bed in but are now great. As a bonus look fab.
