Would be a bit awkward if Milei left and his successor cosied up to China.

Seemingly, Columbia, Pakistan, South Korea, New Zealand and mongolia (!) have the same relationship Argentina is seeking.

Interesting:

NATO has a number of “partners across the globe” or “global partners”, which the Alliance cooperates with on an individual basis. NATO’s global partners include Afghanistan¹, Australia, Colombia, Iraq, Japan, the Republic of Korea, mongolia, New Zealand and Pakistan. NATO’s engagement with global partners is taking on increasing importance in a complex security environment, where many of the challenges the Alliance faces are global and no longer bound by geography.

1) The partnership with Afghanistan is currently suspended following North Atlantic Council decisions related to the security environment.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. We need to keep countries out of the clutches of Russia and China.

A great idea for Argentina (and also for US Defence contractors) but I'm not sure what's in it for the UK or the rest of NATO.

Better than them joining a Russia/China pact.

But joining NATO won't necessarily stop them acting against NATO's interests if their Govt. chooses to do so (take Erdogan for example). OTOH it does impose a responsibility on the rest of NATO to defend them against the likes of Brazil or Chile.

They are NOT joining NATO they just want to become a partner and cooperate with NATO

Aiui it does not place an obligation on NATO to defend them

Interesting, if they join NATO and then start having a go at the Falklands again.

An Attack on one is and attack on the whole, how does NATO work if the members are having a pop at each other ?

They have no interest in the Falklands, they haven't even got a navy to speak of.

That right wing politician was making noises when elected, but it was more a hypothetical question.

So if you don't have a Navy, join an organisations with Navys! biggrin

It's a perfect spouting/shouting platform for Las Malvinas.

I think he stated that it would only be done through dialogue and diplomacy.
