Hi all, I don’t have a sports bike at the moment but have the urge to get one for this summer. I’m generally enjoying a different side to bike these days but am thinking of a last hurrah with something bonkers. Shortlist was S1000RR, triumph 1200rr, Hayabusa and a few others.

Test rode a Hayabusa this week, I was on it for an hour. First impressions were the riding position is very small for a relatively large bike. It rolled side to side beautifully, the motor is obviously the main event and I was just hanging on to it when riding it hard. Because of the grunt and length, it felt quicker than the last s1000rr I owned. I’m sure it isn’t ultimately, but it piled the speed on so drama free without trying to wheelie etc like the BMW did.

Absolutely amazing bike, but I just don’t know when I’d use it over my others. I really think my age and the way the roads are policed has just put me off these bikes even though I still have the urge to run one…. What do you reckon? Can you talk me into it? Or am I lost cause and should go full pipe and slippers?

Try a K1300S. Sportsbike engine (developed by Ricardo) with mighty torque and comfy riding pos and a few creature comforts.

Or an S1000R, which has shorter gearing than the RR so you can actually thrash it!

IMO both better road bikes than the RR

If it’s your last Hurrah, get the most bonkers one you can afford and the one which excites you the most.

Don’t fanny around with something that’s diluted and supposedly a ‘better’ bike.

As the 'Busa and the K1300S have been mentioned then I'd also suggest you look at the H2 SX. Like the 'Busa. it's a bit too heavy to be a true sports bike but is closer to a sports bike than the K1300S.

The advantage that both the K1300S and the H2SX have is the integral hard luggage. You can ride to the Alps in a day, spend a week scratching on the passes, then ride home in a day, all while carrying a cleans set of clothes for every day.

Without knowing what you’ve already got it’s hard to comment but any of the super nakeds will give you sports bike thrills on the road in a more road suited package.

If you want the looks etc. there isn’t really any substitute to a sports bike and you should buy the one you like the look of most.

You will be doing stupid speeds to get a buzz though which as you recognise has serious implications if you get caught.

I’ve got a Speed Triple 1200RR.

I’ve raised the bars and done lots of other small mods.

I absolutely love it. As a road sports bike (as opposed to a race replica) I think it’s perfect.

I know the looks are marmite but I love them and the fact that lots of people, don’t makes me like it even more.

Not sure where you’re based but as it’s on your shortlist, you’re welcome to pop over and take a look.

As all are almost certainly more capable than you it's whichever one gives you the most fizz. Personally not a fan of small or light bikes.

I like bikes with a bit of heft and a ton of grunt, I'd much rather have a K1300 over an S1000 for example.

If I bought an S1000RR I would put S1000R gearing on it, it makes sense for road use imo.

Brutal !

But true. And it’s why I’m looking at getting one. But it has to add some fun / something different. I really thought it would be the Busa as a bit of a grown up sportsbike (maybe that’s a daft idea).

I think that’s why I’m struggling to chose. I love the multi. It handles, it’s grunty enough (maybe just), it also does two up work and long days so well.. but I have this idea of something bonkers for the summer.

I think they’re stunning looking bikes. I’ve been a little put off by some of the reviews and how they have described the comfort. But I’ve sat on a few including one with raised bars and that made it feel ok (very leant forward on the standard bars). I’m going to have another look at these, and thank you for the offer.

IIRC from your previous posts, you know there's no point

But you'll buy one, ride at ridiculous speed, hopefully make it home without losing your license or any bodily parts and then sell it

Next Spring you'll do the same biggrin

I'm not sure if when you stop the cycle, it means you're old or wise - probably both wink

It massively depends on the rider, but I am faster on my GS than I was on a Fireblade. The confidence I get lets me ride it far harder than I’m capable of doing on a sports bike, even on track.

Your Ducati is far closer to a sports bike, so I reckon that you’re not going to get much that’s much better than it, but hope you do manage to find one.

Would one of the BMW “M” bikes do it?

He has a Pike’s Peak Multistrada, something very special.

I'll just add to the H2SX - Almost 220bhp and 110lbft (post remap) with over 200bhp for over 30% of the rev range. All with "real world" 45mpg and 180 miles between fill ups. biggrin
