Could anybody advise on the best way to sell a high value watch.
It's a limited edition Breitling with the box and all papers that I bought new in 2004.
Should I take it to a local Jewellers get it valued and let them buy it?
Should I contact an online watch specalist have them value it and let them buy it?
Should I put it up for sale on ebay? How would you ship such a high value item. Specialist insured courier?
Any advice much appreciated.

I think that the specialist watch selling sites are worth a try.

Others will hopefully offer more advice, but https://www.chrono24.co.uk seems a good one.

Speak to Dom Hackett

There is a thread on here about Dom, very well respected and strong prices.

I have sold watches and jewellery to him and it’s been a pleasure.

Another vote for Dom H - legend!

I think ebay with the Authentication Service is now pretty good and safe/secure for both sides.

Watch Collecting another option.

I honestly wouldn't be scared of eBay these days and has the largest audience to find true value but only after Dom's had a bid as that's preferable to dealing with the 'best price' folks on ebay.

I've sold a couple in Brighton, just walked into the shops there, and was offered decent prices.

I've sold several watches of varying value (£3k - £75k) on Chrono24...

Watchfinder invited me to sell a watch by email. To my surprise they gave me a strong offer which if they stick to would yield me c.20% profit on a watch that I have had for just over 3 years. The watch is now with them via their courier. Awaiting their final offer. Very positive so far.

I sold a Super Avenger and an M1 via ebay around 3 years ago.

Went to their verification crowd so it protects both buyer and seller, so no chance of you having your payment clawed back.

That's probably the best return.

Worth giving Subdial a look as well. Used them to trade in a couple of my watches against my Glashutte Original. Very easy transaction and they arrange collection via insured courier.

Thanks for the advice all. It's a Breitling Crosswind Special BC, B4435612/B690 0401/1000. I shall try the specialists suggested here.

I received the formal offer with nothing knocked off on Monday. BACs payment was supposed to take a couple of days but I received cleared funds yesterday.

All in all a very pleasant selling experience.

P.S. Just looked on their website - they have marked up the watch by 32%! They have one other similar watch that they are selling at £70 less than what they paid for mine, though it is 12 years older.

WF best of a bad bunch! I sold a Speedy to them, got 2.4k, probably would have got 3k private.

Would not sell private in this day and age.

One of my work colleagues tried to sell a Panerai privately, when it came to "exchange" time...the way he described it sounded like a scene from the Sweeney! not sure if he told them to "shut it you sl4g" but the deal didn't go ahead as planned.
