Have just updated to Firefox 1.0.6 and was looking over the beta version of 1.5.

Anyone already trying this?

* Automated update to streamline product upgrades.
* Faster browser navigation.
* Drag and drop for browser tabs.
* Improvements to popup blocking.
* Clear Private Data feature.
* Answers.com added to search engine list.
* Descriptive error pages, redesigned options menu, and RSS discovery.
* Better accessibility support.
* Report a broken Web site wizard.
* Better support for Mac OS X.

It does seem to go a little faster. Which is nice

It breaks compatibility with most extensions again
It does seem a bit quicker
I've already had it crash once, when trying to view the source of a web page (which did work when I started it up again).

I've found 1.5 to be pretty buggy - more so than Deer Park Alpha which I have been running.

I'm too desperately married to mouse gestures, edit CSS and Tidy to even look at a beta without these.

Can you parallel install or does it automatically upgrade 1.0.6?

It upgrades it I didn't spot any option to do a parallel install.

It is possible to run a parallel install because that's what I'm doing. I too missed gesture-based navigation and particularly the ScrapBook extension which I use to capture webpages for research.

All you need to do is install Firefox in a different directory - e.g. Firefox 1.5Beta in C:Program FilesMozillaFirefox1.5Beta and the other in C:Program FilesMozillaFirefox1.0.6 and then just shortcut to the two firefox.exe executables.

Extensions will be enabled and disabled each time you run the different versions, but this has worked fine for me.

Please note - I'm not recommending the above configuration, just saying that it works fine for me.

Finally, I too have had problems with 1.5Beta - it has crashed two or three times. I do like the tab drag and drop though.

I'll hang on at least till mouse gestures is done.

I seriously can't live without that - It's bad enough that you can't do it in every other application, I constantly find myself trying to use the back gesture in Windows Explorer!
