Hi Guys,

I returned to my car at Ascot train station last night to find it had been broken into - glass everywhere and they used a crowbar to open it so spray work needed for a few scratched to be masked!

They broke in to get my RoadAngel off the dash so I am now a few hundred down as a result. I just wanted to say make sure you lock yours away as I would hate this to happen to anyone else, also be careful if you park at Ascot train station.

BlackSpot have been very helpful and the unit is being disabled by them so is no good to anyone now. If you buy a roadangel or are looking to then ensure it is not my one and email me if you want to check the serial against my old one. BS have given me a discount on a new one but it's all the hassle and mess that really pishes me off!

Bad luck,
I thought it was a bit daft people leaving plug-in sat-nav on display,
but hoped an RA, might deter a gentleman thief, given the well know useless on the resale marke. better un plug mine i suppose, ah well..

You're crediting the thief (and his customer) with too much intelligence. Anything that looks vaguely worth nicking will indeed get nicked, regardless of deterrents such as security codes, blocking from networks and the like.

If it looks like it might even vaguely be worth nicking to a moron, remove all traces of it. Including power leads, sucker marks on the glass, etc.

I read a post a good while back which made me think....

If you walked past a car and saw £300 in cash on the dashboard what would you think???

Leaving a plug-in Sat-nav or radar detector on your dash is no different.

I always unplug mine, remove any giveaway screen mounted cradles as well and hide them all outa sight.

wish there was a security system I could fit that would really hurt people who broke into it - I know it sounds harsh but if I caught the person doing it I hate to think how much trouble I would have got into as a result.

The thing that really annoys me is I called the police and they didnt want to know. There were probably some skateboarders they had to knick instead or someone doing 71 in a 70 that demanded their time.

Anyway once I have invented a lethal car alarm I will let you know

Sorry to hear about the break in.

Somewhat surprised that you thought you could leave anything visible in a parked car though. There have been police posters for years telling you not to, and station car parks are about the worst car parks because there are generally very few people about during the day. I don't even leave a coat etc visible as they may assume there is a wallet inside.

Even taking the face off a stereo doesn't help as 90% of people leave it under the seat or in the glovebox /sigh. Factory fit is the only way...

I can buy a re-rad aerial, and conceal unit elswhere, I don't need to see the display really so
that might be the way to go.

I was thinking of that for my tomtom go, but I can't think of anywhere sensible to put it in a 997
