Cerb Engine Price?
Discussion
Chaps - what would be a good price to sell a perfectly healthy 4.5 Cerbera engine for (would be in the car running - say avergae miles - what ever that is?).
Thinking sell this to someone with a Tuscan racer or Griff owner wanting the swap with true TVR engine.
Just thinking for when I put the LS7 in my next car.

This hypothetical and 2k - You MUST BE KIDDING - I got 3.25k for my Bloody RV8 with only 28k miles on it. A good one would surely be 4.5 - 5k.
After the noise they made in the tunnels the other day - made me jealous (only of the noise).
Great Engine - WAY beyond the old boat anchor of the RV8. But not 7litres.

An for 1k I can get my Rv8 overhauled or my bathroom retiled.
It would be more than 4k to someone that did not already have one - i.e. racer, griff, chim etc.
Not much point having two of them just on the off chance one goes bang - and if that happened - BANG - it would be ALOT more than 2k!
Waiting on sensible answers - yes I know what you are saying with the - only as much as someone will pay line....
So that would make your car worth about maybe 6k tops!

Hi Jon .. the going rate is about 5k for a cerbie engine .. you'd need the bellhousing and clutch aswell though, and some kind of management system either OE or aftermarket .. the price goes up obviously if you get all this with the engine, but 5k for the bare engine is commonplace.

Im confused? why do you want an AJP8 if you are going to put an LS7 in your next car??
An LS7 is the better bet for tuning, but the AJP8 is good for 400bhp with the right tuners...
As for price? - I would say £5k, unless you want a 4.2, which would be £3k... Of course this would best be done by buying a "cheap" Cerbera and gutting the engine, then selling off for someone to fit an LS7
£8k+ for an engineless Cerbera surely? (+box/clutch etc)

On the right track - I buy a good - but not too new .5 sell the engine to someone that wants one. Then do the conversion on Cerb - this time with LS7.
Might be next year might me a few year away - but it will get done - or maybe on a Tuscan without an engine (AJP6 alot less saleable).
One of those!!

Just putting it in context - AJP is alot more advanced than an RV8 .
Really.... I thought the year dot RV8 was the more advanced engine

(RV8 Massive cash to get huge power from)
Depends what you call "Mass-ive & huge"

Ha in real terms it is alot more advanced than an LS7!
Total admiration for your transplant but please stop banging on about it & slagging off other very good engines!!!

Ah right... hmm AJP8 Caterham with 400bhp... that could be fun.
Seasider - not banging on about it - more planning for the future! I may be banging on about it post Wortec tune next week though!
Cheers Joolz - yours was nice and quick in the corners at Snett - but then I would not expect anything less.
Seasider, I havent noticed Jon braggin about his conversion. And he hasnt said anything thats 'untrue' on the subject of engines.
Jon, you carry on mate, people like you are rare as feck, cant wait to see your next project! I hope you get to show TVR HQ your baby, might just sway them

Actually there is a Westy out there with a TVR S6 engine @ 400ish bhp... not sure if its lasted though, heard about it a year ago but not heard much since. Then again I havent been looking into them (was going to build a locost) recently.

Christ - they are heavy and Really long for a Westy - AJPV8 woul d be better - likely dead engine by now and need the AJPV8!
Your words not mine!
As for the weight... RV8's are usually heavier, and plenty of those end up in sevens. I agree with what you say about the RV8 being expensive to tune, I know alot of people who have spent quite scary money for 20bhp+ over the QUOTED power output (not REAL output) one from memory spent circa £12k*!! - but it is a nice engine and to be fair its every bit as quick as a Cerb in a straight line now! (and in his hands, considerably quicker round corners bah!)
*sold his std RV8 and bought a John Earls jobbie.
