Hi all,

Thinking of getting a Macan to use as our family car in a couple of months. A few questions for any owners if I may, principally around tech, because Porsche always seem to be miles behind the rest of the world:

1) Is the screen touch screen?

2) Does the Sat Nav feature full postcode ability from standard? I seem to recall this became an optional purchase after launch to add postcodes but not sure when it became standard. Anyone know?

3) Did the Macan come with the option for Apple Car play?

4) Is it possible to retrofit Apple Car Play to act OEM, and do Porsche offer this service or is it strictly an aftermarket job only (a bit like Dension for the old Porsches)?

5) Any bad engines to avoid on these cars? I’ve not seen or heard of anything particularly nasty for Macans.

Thank you!!!!

Some of the answers vary depending on which generation you're looking at, but for Gen 2 / 3 which is 2019 onwards:

1. Yes

2. Am 99% sure yes

3. Yes

4. Don't know

5. The base 4 cylinder engine isn't up to much and isn't highly regarded. V6's are much better

Thanks First Sea Lord,

I’d be looking at a Gen1 more than likely, so an early 2014-16 model.

If it’s Gen 1 and you can stretch the budget, try and buy the best, Macan Turbo with Performance Pack, 2017/2018, night and day, had Gen 2 GTS and Gen 3 S, went back to Macan Turbo with PP, basically a GTS on steroids or Turbo with extra 40hp and GTS suspension. Being the Turbo model, a lot comes standard..

Careful, Carplay is from cars around the 66 plate, MY17 cars onwards only, some of the early ones can't have it, not from Porsche anyway.

Many 66 plates are still MY16 cars though, so be careful.

You can mod the head unit of the early cars with units, but Porsche won't warranty the car if you do.

Early Gen 1's with PCM 3.1 did not have a car play option, nor have a 7-digit postcode search. Model 2017 cars (from late summer 2016) received a minor facelift that included PCM 4. Car play was a £850 option with PCM 4, so many may not have it.

Car Play may be offered by an OPC as an upgrade, From Porsche UK site
