iphone15 pro/gps/carplay issue

This is a bit of a strange one. I recently updated my iphone 15 to release 17.4.1 and now the GPS does not work when connected to carplay and using Waze it just says "no gps - using offline maps", same with Google maps and Apple maps. If I exit the car and move away from it's range then Waze etc. work perfectly so it looks like the Iphone15/car play is not behaving. My wife has an iphone 12 on the same software release and that works both on and off carplay so it's not the release per se. I can't find any info on this problem on the web, there are reports of carplay not working or GPS not working but nothing on GPS on carplay not working
Anybody else had this issue and found a solution before I have to visit the Apple store.

I have a similar issue that started recently, but not exactly the same.
On CarPlay the gps position will freeze on tomtom until I open Apple Maps and then go back to tomtom, when it's unfrozen and working again.
There are lots of unusual bugs with CarPlay that only affect a small number of users unfortunately. I have Siri voice issues that have been going back years for others, but still no fix.

Found out what the issue was by comparing everything on the iPhone12 with my IPhone15, for some reason after/during the update to 17.4.1 the auto-join to the cars w-fi had been switched off. The reason it worked OK away from the car and not in the car was that when inside the car it uses the cars GPS antenna and away from the car it uses the phones GPS, this point had confused me as sometimes if I started the navigation outside of the vehicle and then connected to Carplay it worked fine but other times not hence why I was convinced it was a GPS chip issue!
