OK so this morning the MX5 decided it needed a longer lie in and wouldn't start. Battery has been noticeably down recently, sluggish to start, and it's the original battery now 8 years old.
I have decided to treat it to a spanking new battery so...

For ease I will be picking up form my local Euro parts store in the morning and have 2 options (4 that fit but) out of these which is the best one:

Bosch - £90 - 4 year warranty

Varta - £101 - 4 year warranty

all other specs are identical for CCA etc.

It's been many years since I've had to buy a new car battery so of the 2 above which would you buy and why?

If the specs are identical, they might well be the same battery. I've read from multiple sources that Bosch and Varta batteries are made in the same factories. Thus, if the guarantee period is the same, I'd probably buy the cheaper of the two.

ETA: if you haven't got one, put the small saving towards a CTEK or Victron or Noco or Optimate or ... some other trickle charger of your choice and give it a top-up charge in winter, especially if it's not driven daily.

I understand that Bosch and varta batteries are near enough identical and are made in the same factories.
I expect someone will be along to say I am wrong.

Regardless, I would go for the Bosch, same specs and warranty but with a lower price.

Thanks for the replies in line with my thinking.
I do have a couple of Optimate chargers for the bike but the MX5 lives out the front of the house so not practical to leave a trailing mains cable under the bonnet for battery maintenance.

As it's the original battery and 8 years old I reckon treating the car to new one is a good idea.

I'll get the Bosch one then smile
