airfilter & ram air system

since I'm getting my new ACT plenum soon, I thougth it might be a good idea to renew my airfilter. what do I need? standard TVR or e.g. K&N? what type/size?
also, I was suggested by a Dutch tuner, who does a lot of work for race/rally cars, that it might be a good idea to put a new air inlet system in front of the airflowmeter. This system has a wide airscoop in the nose of the car and a so-called airbox behind it; the airbox contains a ram-air filter. The idea is that the air is pressured in, especially at higher speeds, so the engine breaths easier. Also, the air is supposed to stay cooler this way.
I've read about a similar system on the new BMW M3 CSI, so I'm wondering what you think about this: will this do any good or not?

We've been through this before on here and the opinion of Mr Heath was that the Griff foam air intake is pretty well ok - and you are better off spending you enegy elsewhere. Rich... (can't be bthered to find the thread but I'm sure you can manage this )

o.k. but these guys seem to know their business as well as BMW does.
of course, we are talking turbo 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder here so maybe the V8 is different. On the other hand, Henk's got the same system on his 4.3 BV and it seems to run very well, but I don't know for sure if the airbox has anything to do with it.
it also sounds logical to improve the inlet unless the standard system supplies enough air, even for an uprated plenum. Anyone experimented with this?

Gerjo.... save your money. I ran the 520 engine on a standard Griff filter before the triple throttle body and it was fine. Tried several experiments and they made no difference what so ever.
The most important thing is getting cold air not pressurised air. The air iontake pressure is large as everytime all 8 cylinders fire, that is 5 litres of air sucked in. It is a very large amount of air needed. providing it doesn't heat up in the plenum or on route from the air pipe then you will be OK.
Your engine won't be anywhere near the tune where these things become critical so save your money.
