I need to buy a new dishwasher as the one left by the previous owners has finally died. I'm tempted by a Miele one, am I really getting a better product than a siemens, bosch, neff ?. Any recommendations ?.

Can the Miele one take the 3 in 1 tablets or do I need to faff around with salt etc ?.

Sorry, completely ignorant on these things and no time to research.

All dishwashers can use the 3-1 4-1 5-1 tablets AFAIK. I have had a Hotpoint Limited Edition Dishwasher for about 5 years and it has never gone wrong. Why spend a small fortune on a Miele or whatever when they do the same thing as a cheepo one. Think of all the folding you will have left over for beer and / or optimax

Miele are the best dishwashers by a mile.

Which is handy because they are the most expensive by a mile.

I've had a top of the range Miele since 2001. Old Neff one fell to pieces.

You pays for what you get, but it still looks brand new.

thanks guys. Partly I am fed up with appliances and products that are effectively disposable as nobody will fix them or will charge more than the cost of a replacement.

Nine years ago, flat on my arse broke having bought a new house and car I went out and bought a cheap dishwasher, washing machine and drier. The dishwasher, a Servis one has run for nine years without missing a beat! Dad bought a Bosch one which broke down after 6 months. My trusty service has been donated to a friend and replaced with a Siemens one cos it didn't fit into the new kitchen.

Buy Miele - worth the money.

Hunt around and you can get large discounts on them also.

I have only ever heard good things about Miele, including from an upmarket guest house proprietor who advised it couold handle the workload and produce by far the best results.

When our elderly unit (multi-national, multi-brand, who-knows-where-it-is-made jobs) finally succumbs (the plastic bits are beginning to crumble amongst other things) I intend to go Miele if only to get that clever cutlery drawer device and stop Mrs. LQ moaning about staining on stainless utensils.

That said I just added salt again, after a couple of years of relying on the multi-in-one tablets and the results are much better than they had been recently.

Service on the one we have, when required, has been dreadful - I do it myself now - and expensive.

On the other hand we have a Miele vacuum with the fancy speed control on the hose. It stopped functioning as it should after about 4.5 years. The hose was V. expensive so the extended warranty company paid up the original value towards a replacement. Befoe we got around to replacing it the thing started working properly once again - which was lucky.

However, as part of my investigation into the cost of a replacement hose I discovered that Miele offer (or did then) and absolutely cracking extended service and parts deal if taken at the time of purchase or shortly after. If I had known when I bought it I would have grabbed it with both hands.

My parents' first Miele bought in 1978, coped with a family of five growing up, and was replaced in 1994 by another Miele, which is still going strong now. They're worth it for the clever cutlery tray alone. Salt is added only every six months or so, and that's in a very hard water area.

I recently had a fisher-paykel double drawer dishwasher installed. For a dishwasher, it looks as cool as you can get (in stainless steel) and it also seems to clean everything rather well, too.
