Roof Stays Renovation

My roof stays are looking a bit past there best, rather than spending lots of money on replacements, I thought it may be an idea to remove them, strip the black paint off, and either get them powder coated or chromed. Has anyone done this, or thought of doing this?

I have been thinking of stripping mine, polishing and lacquering them, because, like yours, the paint is flaking off. One of my (growing) list of wee winter pastimes.

Griffith alloy stays also fit apparently, although they are slightly longer so you have to drill another mounting hole in the back of the tub, about 10mm below the existing ones. Pies has done this I believe.

Certainly thought about it as mine are looking a bit shabby now too. More pressing matters at the moment though like a socking great crack in the exhaust and a big service. As Mr. Git says, certainly a job for a rainy winters day. Let us know how you get on though.

I did think about replacing them, but they are very expensive, and I've already spent far too much this year!
I also thought of doing this during the winter. Looks like you would have to cut the old pins off and spray each section seperately, then use new bolts. I quite like the idea of chroming them.

So have I and for £80 from Bell Hill, far improved looks and ease of use!

Or you could always buy a car with Alloy ones on as standard..

That is a plan, maybe I'll buy a Griff, take the roof stays off and then sell it!

Yep Alloy Grifmera Stays fit, they are a tad longer, so you need to drill new holes. They look a lot nicer.
