Best product to cleanse before washing ?

Have to admit to not washing my car as often as I should (often wondered what that long flexy pipe thing that water came out of was for)
Anyway, want to give the old dear a good clean but I want to "cleanse" the bodywork first, get out all the impurities first rather than just plain washing.
Just want something I can buy off the shelf, on its own and not as part of a delux super starter kit costing £100.
Does Zymol or suchlike do a cleanser that i can get on its own?

Zymol does HD Cleanse... Maybe the Miracle will come along with an answer if he can put his paint depth gauge down for a second

You may need to clay bar before HD cleanse going by my experience with the product!

I find this very confusing, what does the clay bar do? and when do you use it??

I use the clay bar to remove tar/dead insects. It also does other contaminants or something, but if I can't see it I don't notice it. Think of a large blob of blutack or putty and you aren't far off.

It removes the heavy engrained dirt that HD won't. I had hard black/brown spots on my car that nothing would remove. used a clay bar and job was done (after a few hours)
