Hello there.

So anyway I got this letter in a brown envelope quite some time ago thinking uh oh, what have I done it's from the Court Service.

Congratulations you've been selected for Jury Boredom. I managed to get it deferred the first time as I was in Le Mans on the propposed date.

However now my time is up and next week I am to serve two weeks at a Crown Court.

Is it fun? Is it boring? Anyone know? Anyone met any foxy women through this sort of thing?

Oh boy.........

fantastic, had to sit in on a murder case, chatted to girl i was next to in breaks and got on very nicely.

did the foreman thing at the end so got to say ya or nay. and generally had a damn good two weeks off work. sure lots to catch up on when i got back but think of it as a semi paid for holiday.

I still have 15 days to take off before December, two weeks extra should really make things interesting

I got 4 muggings when I went, all completely bloody well obviously guilty, all going down the jury route as juries are slightly less likely to convict therefore wasting all of our time and several hundred thousand pounds of tax payers money.

Let me give you an example, police car comes around corner to see directly in the headlight beams Mr X in the process of beating up and relieving of his wallet Mr Y. Cops jump out of car, grab Mr X who is identified by Mr Y there an there, statment taken etc.

And this went before a jury!

Turn up on the first morning in a half track and goosestep into the court house wearing a Nazi uniform.

I think you'll find that your services are no longer required.

What happens if:

a. You fall asleep. I always fall asleep when I'm bored, and I would be bored.

b. You pretend to hold prejudices against the accused on the basis of race, sexuality, height, regional accent or whatever.

c. Also (just thought of this one) there's the worry that the con exacts revenge on the jury.

?

I dread that brown envelope, even more than herpes. I like to steer well clear of all aspects of the law and it's enforcement.

more worrying was the fact the murder case i was on, was of a similiar quality to this, did he do it or was it an accident, his scarf around her neck his *** on her belly but hmm did she die of manslaughter?

hmm i wonder, as worrying was the fact two people felt it might have been when we first sat down to deliberate. ahh the joys of people who read certain more liberal broadsheets, " ooh he is so young cant believe he could do such a thing"

Oh bloody hell don't get me started, to the female PHers out there please don't flame me, but there were 3 middle ages female jurors who took about 2 days to convince because they didn't want the lad to get into trouble as he was so young and his parents looked nice FFS!!!!!!!!! It's the judges bloody job to decide on the punishment the jury just decides guilty yay or nay it's not a difficult concept.

Be gratefull you're not having to go to Nottingham Crown Court in a fortnight. They're starting murder case with 10 suspects and its expected to go on for 2 months not a measily 2 weeks!

That would bankrupt me. What's the penalty for not turning up?

Being made to turn up, but seated in a box by yourself... and not being part of the jury.
