My 11 year old son needs a filling in a back tooth & we were thinking of a white one. Normal type filling for U16 is FoC. but a white one we've been quotes as about £45 as it cannot be done on the NHS.
I thought all dentistry for U 16 was free, or am i living in cloud cuckoo land ?
Any advice or help greatly received.

Cheers guys, I was just questioning having to pay for an eleven year old to have a white filling when a normal one would be free.
We're going to have a white one put in for him anyway.

Think you pay the difference between the cost of a free one and the white one, not the full cost.

get the white one!

All NHS dental treatment is free for under 18's.

Rightly or wrongly, white fillings, as opposed to your silver amalgam things, are costed because they are deemed to be more cosmetic oriented, rather than simply fulfilling the commitment to oral health. These prices can vary, but to be honest 45 quid sounds pretty reasonable.

I had a tooth rebuilt with the white filling stuff after breaking a bit off...cost about £27 I think, and that was including the check-up aswell.
