Do you talk to your car?

After 18 years of enjoying my TVR Chimaera I have come to regard him as a friend. On numerous runs to southern Germany and Switzerland it's been just me and my TVR, Freddie. He's never let me down and he always puts a smile on my face. He's enabled me to achieve my goal of driving at 150 mph on an autobahn. I suppose it's a way of passing the time on a long run but I find that I increasingly talk to him an local runs out too. When I put him in his garage I always tell him, "Well done, Freddie" and give him an affectionate pat on the rear quarter.

Am I alone in this?

We don't need to talk. Over the decades and miles shared, we've come to know each other so well. Trust and respect between us is a given. We have each others backs. We have fun together, we work hard together. Thicker than blood.

I normally whisper a 'thank you' after locking the Astra up after a journey for his faithful and reliable service.

I’m lucky as my car has the voice of Mr. Feeny off of Boy Meets World so it talks back to me when I talk to it and also when I speak to it through my watch.

I often threaten mine with being sold if it doesn't miraculously fix itself when something's gone wrong with it.
Ever since a kid I've always felt a weird connection to a car, I'm mid 40s now and although I don't actually talk to them I feel they are a form of friend.

I never use to, but my stepdad always did to his ones over various marks and models and they never let him down. So every now and then a tap on the dashboard with a “good girl” is what I do In particular the E38 at home is a properly good car that we both drive regularly and know it inside out, service it generously and it rewards us with excellent and reliable service

Oddly i kind of understand this, we've just bought another car so as it stands we have 2 cars on the driveway, the Mrs insists we don't need 2 so sell the old car, but i become very sentimental when it comes to cars, especially when they've played a big part in the family life.

Not only do i talk to ‘Marky’ the Marcos but, if I have to go into the garage when it’s raining, I apologise to him that we’re not going out today as the weather’s too nasty for him.

Being of similar age, I just put it down to watching/reading 'Christine'.

While she’s nothing special, my Passat has clocked up 216,000 miles and has never really let me down. It’s a bit sappy but I do regard my car as a friend, someone who is loyal and will get you out of trouble when needs arise. Not so much the talking since I’m not big on talking, but there is a bond there.

Yes. Sometimes curse words, sometimes a "good work" after a particularly good drive and on a track day i talk constantly.

Cars are far more reliable than people. Would get rid of the wife well before any of the cars.
