Slight intermitent idle problem
Discussion
Any ideas - I have an intermittent idle problem...:(
Sometimes my 350i idles at about 1100rpm (with clutch dipped or out of gear) and runs great no matter if you have your foot down or just cruising in city traffic.
Other times, it will idle at just 500rpm (with clutch dipped or out of gear) and still runs great if you put your foot down but if you are cruising with foot lightly on accelerator to maintain constant speed, it feels like I have used "kangaroo petrol".
I though a duff plug or sticking valve but I have pulled the spark plugs and all are as they should be indicating my problems perhaps lie elsewhere...
Any ideas please?
Cheers.

That happens on mine when I put the original ECU in.
I put in my spare ECU that I had refurbished are carelec (not cheap but....) and it works perfectly.
Suggest trying someone elses ECU that works and their car - if it works on yours then you know its the ECU, if it doesn't then its something else - don't know where you are but you could try mine if you want

I had this problem the other week too. I put clips on all the air pipes which seemd to help a bit then changed the plugs even if they look ok you cant tell if they are breaking down inside. Also check the ends of the HT leads as they can start coming away if you have been yanking them off and on looking at the plugs.
In the end the thing that seemed to make the biggest difference to mine was fully charging the battery overnight! It seemed to struggle to tick over when the fan kicked in, i charged the battery and hey presto ok. I had been starting it and just putting it on the drive to get in the garage when what it needed was a long run as the battery was not recovering.
If the coolant sensor goes plugs go black and wet i believe?
