Help please.. Battery charge light

Hi
Can anyone help, I have just had the dash out of the griff because of a loose connection which I have sorted.
Whilst removing the dash a couple of wires decided to fall of which I have replaced, they were on the battery charge guage...problem now is that the red dash light is not working untll I switch the ignition off and then it lights momentary. The charge guage seems to work ok, could the two wires be the wrong way round and the guage still work. any help appreciated.

Sounds like the wires to the red LED are the wrong way round. (An LED only alows current to pass through it one way.)

I didnt touch the LED, so assume it may take a pulse from the battery charge guage wires, so maybe the wires are the wriong way round, strange as guage still works.
