Mrs Get - on a windoze XP - using outlook express. She sends a mail... works fine. *Sometimes* she sends a mail - seems to work fine, no bounce back, no error message, message in 'sent' folder - you can see the mail 'going' - but it hasn't gone. Done cc's to two other computers, never recieved. Bummer - especially as she now never knows whether the mail has arrived or not.

Is this a re-install? (if so, as it was pre-installed, will I have to re-install the whole damned lot?)

I tried going back a few months using the revert function. No Joy.

Any thoughts chaps?

If it says sent, then it could well be the ISP / Mailserver you are sending it to.

Could be the mail is getting lost, or spam blacklisted, or virus canned etc.

Can you check with your ISP, get them to see what their Logs show.

What Jamie said.

If it leaves the outbox, then it means the email is being accepted by the ISPs mail server. If it subsequently doesn't arrive then I'd wager it's not because of outlook express.

If you can get specific examples of messages that weren't received, your ISP should be able to trace this and determine why.

Hi Steve

Would concur with the above and an option you could look at is using an internal smtp server - I use

www.download.com/PostCast-Server-Free-Edition/3640-20_4-10332410.html

Its freeware (which is always nice) and has logging facility so any probs and you can go straight in and look into what happened with any particular mail without having to contact your ISP. Quite funky.

p.s. don't suppose the emails that went missing were addressed to AOL were they? Have had problems in the past with AOL deciding my mails were dodgy and refusing to pass them on to the recipient, however no mail back or error report returned to me they just never arrived.

Assuming it's XP pro, there's an SMTP server in IIS that can be enabled.
