Servicing costs poll

OK the Griff needs a service and I'd like info on the cost of servicing at main dealer versus independent. Particulary keen to hear how much Dave Batty at the garage charges?

Lets have a thread answering the following questions:
Dealer: eg Fernhurst
6000 mile: £350-£375
12000 mile: £500-£550
Labour rate: unknown

Anyone else care to post?

Full service on my Griff' cost £280 all in. Very pro' service too, carried out by Schole Engineering.Has to be the best indie in East Anglia IMHO.

Try the V8 Centre in High Wycombe. They are independent TVR specialists and excellent value

Chimaera/Griff 6,000 mile service - £225
12,000 mile service - £285

All done to TVR specs. A very friendly and helpful team there as well. I have had my Chimaera serviced there for 4 years and have only the highest praise. He also has a bodyshop and trim repairs

£225 for a 6k service I paid just under £600 for my last one and that was with no extras.

Price is important but you should also choose someone that you feel you trust, like etc..... I find each place has a different 'culture' (yuck!) and so I would rather pay a bit more for a garage that I like. BUT saying that I use APM (nr Liphook ie same area as Fernies and David Batty) and not only are his prices very reasonable BUT you also know that you are dealing with one of the most experienced TVR mechanics there is.

I'm a firm TopCats man (just outside Aylesbury, Bucks). Fully independant, happy, helpful people.

I was charged £636 + Vat for a service on my Tuscan that included tappit adjustment. (24000 mile). Bargain.

I've never understood how these guys can do them so cheap .. there's 80 quids worth of parts and charges in a 6k service .. their hourly rates must be really low. I knew i couldn't compete on price and effectively lost money compared to other work so stopped doing it .. there's just too many cheap outfits out there now, and the bottom lines is most owners are interested in the price first and foremost

Joo, you were the Breitling of Indies, and many people just couldnt get past the germ filtration system at the corner of your industrial complex!

Thank god its a different ball game now... wish I could make money from something I enjoyed doing

Plus - it's not just "what a service costs" it's all about getting the best servicing and the best value in fixing anything having meaningful discussions about what needs doing and when and a load more besides.....

I allways use Offords for the Griffith and the S before.

6,000 mile service £220
12,000 mile service £360

That includes parts labour and VAT, I have allways been happy with the service and from what I have checked after they have done everything although I dont think there screenwash was up to much but not worried about trivial stuff like that, aslong as everything is greased, changed oil, filter etc

I'm not. I want Wol to be looked after. That is the most important thing to me. I don't want to be shafted, but everybody has to make a profit, or they're not there to keep looking after him. He's in at TVR Power in early October, but future business will depend on how well the job is done, not just how much it did or didn't cost.

I agree Joolz, I'm stunned at some of the prices that come out from places... although with a little digging I've found that in some cases a 6k service doesn't include a change of plugs - as per the TVR service schedule. One place even told me there was no need to remove the exhaust on a service

As Maggit says, I take my car to a place that I trust, and I know the work will be done to a high standard. I get good advice / options, talked through the work that needs to be done (and potential future work), and presented with a box of bits at the end (the bits that came off the car).
