http://uk.news.yahoo.com/14092005/325/london-unveil-pregnant-disabled-woman-s-statue.html

A statue depicting a pregnant disabled woman has been unveiled in Trafalgar Sq. I guess that if she was a lesbian and muslim, the statue would have been the perfect PH-quango stereotype ;)

Hmm, I'm not sure if I like the fact that "quango" has found it's way into my spellcheck

Why??? Isn't this self defeating, I thought the disabled wanted to be treated the same as eveyone else. This just brings attention to it.
Would they put a statue of an able pregnant woman up?

Typical PC scumbagism from RedKen and his PC perverts! And these so-called artists are getting paid for their ruvbbish out of London's taxes FFS!!!

It would have been more appropriate to have put up a Chelsea Tractor with Mumsy and her lil darlin's, fatty Tarquin, and chubby Tabitha!!! Or it would have been more PC to have put a statue of a newt up instead of this!!!

Sheesh. Does it really matter that much?

I read an article about Alison Lapper recently, it was pretty interesting.

Her art may not be to everyone's taste she has done pretty well for herself. IIRC she enjoys driving as it's one of the only ways she can be in public where no-one knows she is disabled.

I like it, but she let herself down badly just now in her BBC breakfast TV interview. She made the comment that "At least she hadnt slaughtered people to get there". So, no doubt about her lefty arty farty lentilist earth mother ban the bomb greenham lets disrespect our war heroes because they were just mindless thugs agenda then.

My opinion of her was neutral to mildy respectfull and sympathetic until she said that. Now I think shes a stupid cow.

I think the fact that Ken Livingstone thinks we should erect a statue of her should have told you that whatever she said in her interview.

It is an interesting age we live in where people are celebrated as heroes for being 'victims' whether of man or nature, and the men who made Britain great are denigrated.

Don't see what this woman has done that is heroic, okay she's disabled and she's pregnant, so what? Alot of disabled women have children, same as able bodied women. She's just getting along with life, she didn't choose to be disabled, what she is doing is coping, but it's not heroic.

Nelson as an example chose to put himslef in mortal danger and played a central role in preventing the invasion of the country. It was heroic IMO because he had the choice not to do so.

Churchill stood up to Nazism when the easy option would have been to strike a deal with Germany and keep the empire in tact, again he chose to fight for the right thing.

They sent them to Iraq. I think there was a scandal about it.

Mrs Macartney 2 went into JLo's new shop or something to protest about the use of fur in the new collection.

She got tackled by a security guy and one of her legs fell off.

[the bbc site doen't mention the 2nd bit but that's what they said on the news this AM].

and that sculpture is indeed leftist nonsense. it should be Brunel.

Sorry, it just makes me think of those lizards whose tails come off when they are grabbed. It could catch on with shoplifters in Saudi Arabia.

Perhaps, but engineers have always managed to remain just outside the spotlight when it comes to fame (except in France). I would have thought that a memorial statue for those killed in the underground bombings would be far more deserving and appropriate.
