FWD and RWD have certain handling characteristics under differing driving conditions and usage. neither is inherently safe or unsafe. only drivers are safe or unsafe

How can you talk about Alfas previous sporting herritage - in context of the Re-platformed cost-compromised Fiats they make now?
I don't see the connection of their illustrious badge from their great past and the re-platformed re-badged Fiats they make now (although admittedly pretty). As far as I'm concerned, the last true Alfa Romeo was the RWD Alfa 75 and the SZ- it was true to their values. In the 80's they used to sell the virtues of RWD and equal weight distribution- when Fiat took over they were forced to eat their words.

I never set one was safe or not. FWD is generally safer however. Its undeniable and one of the reasons the industry has moved towards it, along with cheaper & better packaging etc.

err..because it is exactly that. they do have a sporting heritage - implicit in the word "heritage" is an acknowledgement that one is talking about past i.e something one has inherited. the fact that they have squandered that heritage making crappy cars that fall apart is a modern tragedy.

lets not get too far off the point here - which is that Alfa should know better than to allow some spotty oik in the PR department to pronounce that a tried and tested drive system is "dangerous" when it isnt.

I think you guys pretty well nailed it.

Imagine Alfa, of all people, coming out saying RWD is dangerous. Just one more example of the marketing department getting out beyond their leash.
