I know I haven’t worn my Farer Ainsdale for a while and was contemplating moving it on, but a new straps has arrived to try to give it a new lease of life.

But can I find the bloody watch anywhere in my usual hiding places? Can I f….

So either I’ve mislaid it in a fit of superior thief beating skills or I’ve lost the game and someone (cleaner, tradesman) has found it at the back of a drawer….

(I had a watch stolen from inside a drawer when we were broken into for my car’s key, hence the stashing behaviour….)

Bugger.

Sounds a bit obsessive but understandable I suppose. If you don't look you won't find it. On the other hand have you had any strangers in the house recently. Mind you if you don't remember where you hid it then you'll never really know. Quite a conundrum.

Only the cleaners. Which would be gutting as they’ve been looking after us for 10+ years with one broken picture frame in all that time.

Would also have had to go past a more visible watch box.

In the extra-extra secret place I’d completely forgotten about.

Dodgy photo with a new, silly strap.

Shame on you for even thinking it may be the cleaners. Only kidding.

I bet that it was in the last place that you looked as well.

How did you guess…?! biglaugh

It took me a while to remember about this hiding place. And then it took longer still to locate the larger container than the watch case was in.

I did something similar about 20 years ago. I stashed some Krugerands in a very safe place only to forget where they were.
I've moved home 4 times since then, someone's going to get a very pleasant surprise one day!

Could be worse.

A friend of mine has lost his Rolex Datejust. His young kids (then aged 2 and 4) had previous for playing with it, and also for taking stuff like that and hiding it, or taking it into the garden. He is absolutely convinced they have taken it out into the garden and hidden it or lost it.

That was 4 years ago now and it has never been seen since. He has just written it off as gone forever.

It’s on the list. We do have some further work to be done on the house which would end up with people working where a safe would be best located. Once they are done I will look more seriously into it.

Mind you, a colleague has a decent Rolex collection but his safe is so inaccessible he finds it too much of a faff to change watch and so wears his Sea Dweller all the time.

Same here, but Sovereigns and in my current house. I'm 99% certain they are in the house somewhere but they aren't in my pants/socks drawer (as if..) so I must have thought of a much harder place to hide them. Now I just need to remember where that place is. DOH!

You’re not alone.

Somewhere in my house is a 1970’s Seiko 5, a 1930’s Breguet ladies watch, a Dupont Ligne 2 lighter, a Cartier lighter and a Dunhill lighter.

I’ll be buggered if I could remember where though banghead
