Private number plate FRAUD!!!
Discussion
Ok here's a new one to me and my unlucky mate !
So for years now I have been telling my mate to shift his private plate , as it was on his Boxter that has been sitting in his moms garage for many years 😵
The plate is no on a Ferrari apparently in London 🤨
So this is what has gone on , someone in their wisdom has brought an identical car and managed to clone it mot it and transfer his plate 🫣
He has gone to the police 👮♀️ who are not interested, i think he is now contacting DVLA . I will find out soon 👍
The number was 10 VE And worth around 150k and says it was sold on for 100k .......
We can't believe this has happened !!
If anyone has contacts or help that he can contact to help him through this traumatic time please get intouch with me so I can pass it on .
And yes he still has the Porsche Boxter at home .
TIA

This may seem an odd angle.
How long was the Boxster parked up for? Did he put the plate on retention when the car was parked in the garage and not being used? There is a risk that if a plate on retention isn't used after a certain period of time - I think 10 years - you lose all rights to the plate.
IGNORE - I've just re-read your OP.

Did he put the Porsche on SORN, which he should have done if it wasn't being used, and thus not being MOT'd.....or did he just park it and forget about it....?So for years now I have been telling my mate to shift his private plate , as it was on his Boxter that has been sitting in his moms garage for many years ??
The plate on the Ferrari was shown in here recently.

Would still like to know how they transferred it without the V5It always concerned my how other people can apply for the log book. I read about people doing it for 'abandoned' cars - regardless of whether you think it to be abandoned, it isn't your car! Appreciate this case is different, but the fact is that it's a gaping security hole.
I hope that justice prevails.

Can't offer any assistance I'm afraid, but this could get very interesting. I thought if someone applied for a V5, the DVLA send a letter to the current registered keeper and offer them the opportunity to intervene. I hope your mate has always maintained the SORN declaration and correct address on the V5 otherwise he really will have a battle on his hands

He said they cloned an identical car got a mot sent for log book and once they retains the plate sent the cloned car to the crusher .....
Still on going
That's why I asked about SORN.Still on going
If your mate didn't SORN the Boxster, and its been sat in his Mum's garage for years, and thus no MOT, no VED being paid, thus a search on the number plate is going to show up as not SORN, MOT expired X years ago etc., and he may have been ignoring DVLA notifications (was car registered in his name at his Mum's address?).......and thus ripe for a bit of skulduggery.
