So going back to South Africa, part business, part leisure and taking my wife. We have 11 days, so far Cape Town 1 Night, Lanzerac 2 nights, Franschhoek 2 nights, for business then 2 nights on Safari and I have a further 2 nights to stay somewhere else or explore.

My first visit was 18 months ago and did Cape Point, Safari, Table Mountain none of which my wife has done before so doing those but looking for something for the last 2 nights. I’m buying wine so not wine tasting either! We will have a car and happy to drive and will be in January.

TIA going to get it booked next week, so looking forward to getting back out there.

Take a look at Hermanus - on the coast not far away from George. Nice fairly small town with some decent restaurants (not pretentious but good solid fare) - favourite restaurants for us are Chard and Fisherman’s Cottage.
We’ve done Cape Town a few times so that’s been done and our favourite places now are Franschhoek and Hermanus.
Not a fan of Stellenbosch - too big.

For something different, go north - e.g. Namaqua National Park.

Think I’ll do the same one I did last year Sanbona.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

Cool, we stayed at the Dwyka tents in Sanbona a few years ago.

If you’re over that way I’d probably go and check out some of the garden route. Visit Tsitsikamma, Natures Valley Beach, Robberg in Plettenberg, Knysna, Wilderness etc. I can recommend staying at Barringtons in Plett.

No worries. We’ve spent a lot of time in South Africa. Going back in November with friends. Taking them to Cape Town, Franschhoek, Hermanus, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, St Lucia and then doing Kruger and then Tulbagh on our own.

My favourite wine is from Tulbagh, Rijk’s reserve pinotage, preferably the 2018. Rare as rocking horse st in the U.K. so I’m going to buy a few cases to bring back.

Have stayed at Rijk's place a couple of times and agree the wine is very special. You can get it in UK from Private Cellar, eg 2018 Pinotage is £27 a bottle. No connection etc

Thanks, they don’t have the reserve just the private cellar but I’ll send them an email see if they can get some in. Did you try the 888?

Franshoek's lovely, we stayed at the Lavender Farm which is walkable from the center. Most people go to Franshoek for the wine tram, which I guess you're not interested in if not tasting, but a lot of the vineyards have decent restaurants, or will do picnic lunches and you can go for a walk.
There's a couple of breweries with bars there too if you fancy a change from wine.

We did the zipline safari in Tsitsikamma which was fun, and if we go again I'd definitely go back there and maybe do some kayaking and hiking. I'll also second the above recommendations for Knysna and Plettenberg bay too. We also went out in kayaks near Boulders beach to see the penguins from the sea side.

That's a lot of moving around, and 1 night for Cape Town especially trying to fit something like table mountain is a bitty short.

I'd spend a bit longer in Cape Town, lots to do and great restaurants!

The 888, sadly no but it's some years since we were there. Last time we went to RSA was 2018 when we took my then-90 year old father to Jo'burg for his brother's funeral, we were only there 3 days. Food for 12 at the country club - £100!

End of thread hijack but my intention is to try it where it’s cheap! A sad reason for being there but a great country to visit. It’s not really any more expensive now, even at a high end steak restaurant you’d be pushed to spend what you do here in Nando’s.
