Funeral Expenses From An Estate
Discussion
Was in the unfortunate position to lose a parent back in November and ended up paying for the funeral/wake myself without any financial input from my brother or sister. Was around 4K ish all in.
We have been granted confirmation/probate via a solicitor now (brother was exectutor) and are in middle of dealing with the house sale. Meanwhile, there was a large lump of my Mums saving which were transferred to the solicitor when the account was closed. Well above my expenses.
It's annoying me a tad that I am out of pocket over 4K which could be earning me interest just now instead of sitting in the solicitors account for a house sale and estate wind up which could take another pile of months.
Is it fair for me to ask the solictor for my expenses to be paid just now? Or do I just need to wait until the end?
Any advice welcome...

Yes these expenses can be sorted before the beneficiaries are paid out.
They will be deducted from the total amount to be distributed, and before any IHT.
Many thanks for that. Have emailed the solicitor to ask the question and see what he says. No point in him earning interest, albeit a small amount, when I could be topping up my own savings. They will be deducted from the total amount to be distributed, and before any IHT.
