Following on from another (closed) thread the following comment was made:

Copyright of photos lasts 70 years in the UK. Too many people think (or fail to think) that doesn't apply to on-line images.

The obvious question, to me, is how on earth can you tell what or isn't copyrighted (especially after multiplereposts on various SM)? Naturally if the copyright holder starts, rightly, questioning usage then that's your clue but then what constitutes fair usage? Is fair usage even a thing?

Stick to stuff you've taken yourself or stuff that's explicitly in the public domain like Wikipedia. Can be frustrating though.
