991.1 Turbo vs F Type SVR v ?

I’m in the unenviable position where I’ve recently lost my father and so there is now a legacy (not a Subaru) coming my way. He loved Stuttgart Pork, we had a fab day at Silverstone a fair few years back, I want to honour him, and I am a GT chap and not interested in a track day weapon - he wasn’t either.

He always loved 911s. I’ve only had one Porsche (Cayman 987 S) but he loved it. And at Silverstone we had for his 70th a 997 Turbo and Cayman R. So thinking 991 Turbo or some mad Jag which he also loved (I’ve had 4/sc Jags and he liked the F Type). I currently have a 5.0 XKR which he loved the absurd acceleration.

So any cars am I missing?

If you love GT cars, and you want your purchase to honour your old man’s legacy then may I humbly suggest a 928 GTS.

One of the best cars Porsche ever made.

Depreciation proof.

Would have been his era.

This way you get a great car, you don’t lose any of the captial, the connection with him & his era remains.

The SVR F Type FHC is a wonderful thing and I really miss the one I owned . A lovely raw feeling to it when accelerating and in a straight line you would need a Turbo S and the extra £60,000 to buy it before you would be troubled by a Porsche . The only shortcoming I found was in the "turn in" at speed where the seating position didn't inspire the same confidence I would get from my Porsche . You were "sitting on" the SVR as opposed to "sitting in" the Porsche if that makes sense but a stunning car for the money . For the handling and the owning of an icon then the Porsche but for individuality and experiencing Jaguar and Britain at its best then the SVR F Type would get my money . I was struck by just how similar the AMG engined Vantages I owned were to the earlier F Type SVR but that's another debate .

They're two very different cars, the F Type has the theatre & makes 30mph feel special, the Turbo is more efficient than theatre but it's still a great car.

What I will say is that when you're down to two cars test drive both as that's what one floats YOUR boat.

For me it would be the Porsche hands down but ultimately you need to experience both yourself and decide which suits you best

Sorry for your loss. I have been in the same position myself and my dad always wanted to see me in an F Type, sadly he never got to but i bought one in his memory and it's a great feeling to drive it everyday. Not an SVR but V8 AWD with theatre a plenty. As others have said go with your gut but when you can warble, crackle and burble at even low speeds it's a smile inducer!

Your dad would have been proud with either I'm sure
