Had this text today.

Must admit that I did click the link (I was in the middle of cooking and my suspicious mind was not on,) which goes to what looks like Vodafone web site.

Thankfully my suspicious mind engaged and I didn't put in any information.

I would love to know how they got my phone number and knew I was with Vodafone.

I’d say both your number and guessing you were vodaphone were a guess

I get scam texts for various bank, it’s only the Lloyds ones I might fall for

Probably less scammy than Vodafone themselves.

I've had it twice in the last week, although with slightly different text. The one today was even from a foreign number - +69 or something like that - so hardly convincing.
Both blocked but I expect I'll get some more

Once they’ve been ported, the association no longer holds, but mobile numbers were allocated to specific networks in blocks so it was possible to guess the provider.

As you say though, they will just spam all numbers with all these messages and hope they find victims. Obviously they do, as if nobody ever fell for them, they’d have given up trying.

I've had two of these and I'm not with vodafone for mobile but am for internet.

Which narrows it down to a random firing to all or a breach.

My number was originally Vodafone, but was ported to O2 and then EE at least 10 years ago.

The spelling and grammar alone is enough to spot it's a scam.

Plus the fact that my last one ended with the line that was something like "Vodafone wishes you a happy life".

In the world of modern scams, it's a poor effort - 1/10.
