IIRC, some chap staked a claim to the moon, and was awarded ownership. 20(?) years later I bought an acre for not much money at all :)

Can anyone more knowlegable than I explain the rules and regs that accompany staking claims on land? Assumedly then, other planets in our solar system have all been claimed?

*I've got a feeling his "ownership" of the moon boils down to the fact that he wrote to various government/official bodies to say he was claiming it, but they never bothered to write back, therefore he "owns" the moon.

I think it's actually been agreed between various countries etc that no-one can lay claim to the moon so therefore all those people that have paid for a small piece of it have effectively wasted their dosh.

*of course everything from this point on could be completely wrong but I'm fairly sure I've got the main points correct

You are correct sir, except for one detail. The UN says that no Country or Government can lay claim to an ET body. They make no mention of private individuals......

It's all hogwash of course, but I have an acre for a laugh.

Well, a new planet was discovered in our solar bin not long ago, but I had a few busy mornings and didnt get round to claiming it

Convince me that it'll be more fun than a barrel full of two smoking monkies and we have a deal

Armstring claimed it "For All Mankind" - which was a bit presumptious, in my opinion.
