Quiet compressor
Discussion
Hi
Looking for a air compressor main uses simply blowing air, small spray gun and gun to blow in some dpf cleaner now and again. I have decent battery tools.so probably wont need heavy duty air tools
Can anyone recommend?
I think I'd be looking for a minimum 50l or around 90l
I see abac do a nice 90 litre one and can get them second hand fairly priced.
I also read another somewhere which I can't find now another make who were selling relatively quiet ones for quite good money but can't remember the make.

I was told when I bought one that a "direct drive" compressor is always noisier than one that has belt drive. I chose the cheaper direct drive and regretted it. I had to enclose the compressor in a wooden box, lined with foam, to make conversation in the workshop possible, and that led to the pump overheating, so an extractor fan was added to the box.
The assembly is quietER now and reliable.

Reciprocating compressors are fairly noisy, cheap direct drive ones particularly so; dentists tend to use rotary vane(very expensive) or sealed can(as fitted to your fridge) compressors, which are quiet and very quiet respectively. How quiet do you need it to be? The problem is you pay for the quietness with low capacity.
